Future Olympic Uniforms Could be Spray On

The now-banned LZR Racer swinsuit

The Olympic Games don’t begin for over a week and already there is much controversy – not on the fields of competition but rather on what is covering the athletes. In the United States some lawmakers are upset that the attire to be worn by the U.S. Olympic Team was made in China.

Then there are the swim suits that will be worn in the pool – and could be a replay of the now-banned 2008 LZR Racer skinsuits. Likewise the golf ball inspired track suits are getting much attention. Continue reading Future Olympic Uniforms Could be Spray On

Adidas Gets Adapt and in Motion

This week Adidas unveiled its new natural running shoe collection, a first for the company, with the release of the adipure Motion for beginners to go anaturale, the adipure Gazelle for intermediate runners, and the adipure Adapt for advanced natural guns. The line of shoes is engineered to promote pure and natural movement to help runners safely and gradually improve their speed, strength and performance through minimalist running.

This is accomplished as the adipure range offers varying heel gradients to help strengthen the foot’s musculoskeletal system. The Motion, offers just an 11mm drop, which is reportedly the ideal “first step” for natural running, while the Gazelle takes it down to 7mm. Finally the Adapt, which weights just 4.5ounces, takes it to 4mm for advanced natural runners. The shoes were created through stress analysis mapping using 500 sensors on a bare foot to measure where the foot stretches during impact, and this helped determine where it requires more freedom along with more support. TrainingPeaks Lets Athletes Edit Data on the Web

Last week after a ride we put the bikes on the car and packed up. Just as we got rolling, we heard the Garmin Edge cycle computer beep from the trunk. It picked up movement, and was about to track our drive home. Because this stuff happens, TrainingPeaks just started offering the ability to edit data on the web interface. This way you can delete such errors that get uploaded from a tracking device, and concentrate on performance. Continue reading TrainingPeaks Lets Athletes Edit Data on the Web

Reebok Zigs and Zags Again with Shark

Sharks supposedly have rows of teeth, which allows them to take a serious bite into their prey. The Reebok Zigtech Shark can eat up the road much the same way. It features a traction segment on the sole that is inspired by shark teeth to give runners excellent traction and durability, while the 20-degree angles are designed to promote sheering and horizontal cushioning. The mesh upper, which is inspired by a shark gill, also offers synthetic overlays for breathable support.

It might be safe to go back in the water, but on the road you’re opponents won’t know how you caught them. Video and more images after the jump

Nike+ Running Comes to Android, iOS Gets 4.0 Update

Nike is finally bringing its popular Nike+ Running app to the Android ecosystem. The app, which was originally released in 2010 for iOS, connects to nikeplus.com and lets runners track, share, and compare their runs using their smartphone.

Nike has simultaneously updated the iOS version of the app to version 4.0 and it too has assumed the Nike+ Running name. The GPS-enabled app now includes a widget option that lets you start a run from your phone’s home screen. You can also configure a list of “power songs” to start playing when you need a little motivation on the track.

Like most fitness apps, Nike+ Running lets users share their workout data on Facebook or Twitter. A new feature also lets you record the shoes you run in along with your cumulative mileage for that specific pair of shoes. Video after the jump

Hands On: Vionic Orthaheel Women’s Mojave Sandal

I recently got an email in my inbox for the Vionic Orthaheel line of shoes asking if I have heel pain, knee pain, back pain, leg pain? My answer: All of the above!
