In every cyclists efforts to trim grams, there comes a time when a few accessories, like a hydration system, are deemed essential. Now time trailers and triathletes, among other cyclists, can shave a few grams from their hydration system. Karbon Speed just released its XR Series hydration system, the Karbon Speed FXR, for Front Extended Range.
The base for Karbon Speeds XR Modular Hydration System is made from flax carbon. The new-ish material is a carbon fiber hybrid that uses flax. The new material saves 20 percent over competing systems made from carbon fiber. The FXR weighs 20 grams, while most other systems weigh in around 25 grams.
Karbon Speed says that the flax carbon is 5 percent lighter than carbon fiber, 12 percent stronger, and is sustainable. The FXR sells from Karbon Speed sells for $32. It is also packaged with the Super SpeedPac, which includes one FXR, one Karbon Kage and one Speedfil A2.
