There are rugged devices and then there are truly rugged, will survive the end of the world rugged. For most people the latter is a bit overkill. That’s why GammaTech at CES this week introduced its semi-rugged yet ultra-mobile tablet PC (UMPC), the Durabook Model CA10.
This device still looks like it could stand up to a serious adventure, and it features a 10.1-inch TFT LCD display with resistive multi-touch screen panel. It meets the Military Standard 810G and IP43 standard for drop, shock, dust and water resistance, while also offering hot swappable dual-battery design with up to eight hours of power. There is even quick menu support for easy operability.
While designed for those who might do field work we could see this unit inspire designers to think about computers that can truly go anywhere the wind might take us.
