This week we came across two unique – and very different – concepts for cooking while camping. The first is from Energia USA, which makes it cooking containers out of paper. That didn’t sound right to us either, but you’re reading that right. The cooking pots are made out of paper.
The Hexa Pot is produced of disposable paper that can be used while on the go, and then tossed into the trash or recycling bin! Interestingly the company promises to make products are eco-conscious and are made from 25 percent renewable plant-based plastics. So the idea of throwing in the garbage maybe counter intuitive for a eco-conscious product but it can break down quickly, thus not really piling up in landfills.
The product can be used over a conventional open flame without problems, and after a use can be folded up and discarded. It could be good for those looking to reduce bulk while hiking.

The other solution to cooking on the go is the Flameless Cook System from Trekmates, which uses no gas and cooks meals without fire. And we’re not talking about cold cereal in a bucket.
The Flameless Cook System uses a chemical heating packet that can be placed in the plastic tray of a cooking flask or pot, and it heads up as water is added. In about 10 minutes the result is a hot meal or beverage. This can be helpful for cooking in cold or rainy situations where a fire might be hard to make.
