UNIQLO Comes Out with Tennis Line in U.S.

If you thought you saw the UNIQLO label on tennis players at the Olympics, Wimbledon and other recent televised tournaments, you weren’t imagining things. UNIQLO just launched its line of tennis apparel. The line was created around Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, who will be playing in the U.S. Open in New York in just a few days.

UNIQLO became a sponsor of Novak Djokovic in May. Now that he’s shown the logo on the court for a few months, the retailer is launching 10 items for adults. Those items include warm up jackets and pants, shirts, shorts and accessories. The line will closely resemble the garments Djokovic has been wearing on the court for the past few months.

Toray Industries provided some of the performance fabrics used in the garments. Many of the garments use fabric that absorbs perspiration and dries quickly.

“I am very impressed with the UNIQLO design philosophy,” said Novak Djokovic.”Over a series of regular face to face meetings, which take place in-between tournaments, we discuss a number of details regarding overall design, types of fabrics and materials, and even colors. The UNIQLO creative team, led by Takizawa-san, understands the importance of achieving the right balance of these elements so that my performance wear can support my movement on the court and give me an extra boost of confidence when aiming for my points.”

Clothes in the new UNIQLO tennis line include a Dry-EX zip polo shirt; DRY-EX shorts; a track jacket and track pants and a warm-up jacket and warm-up pants. Accessories include a cap, headband, socks and wristbands.
