Rugged is the name of the game this season with point-and-shoot digital cameras and Sony isn’t going to be left behind. The company announced last week a new line of Cyber-shot cameras, including the rugged DSC-TX20. It can get wet and wild and be submerged up to five meters in water and dropped from 1.5 meters, while also being dustproof and freeze proof.
On the feature end it offers a new Exmor R sensor, which boasts low-light senstivity of ISO 12800, along with a superior auto mode to achieve “professional results” by automatically detecting lighting and scene conditions, as well as improved optical image stablization and better low light performacne. The TX20 also features Sony’s “By Pixel Super Resolution” technolgy that can double the range of the optical zoom without actually degrading the image. It also offers a Dual-Record feature that allows users to capture 12megapixel stills while shooting HD videos.
The Sony DSC-TX20 will even be available in multiple colors including orange, green, black, blue and pink when it arrives in May for around $330.
