This week at the Snowsports Industries America (SIA) show in Denver Venture Snowboards is showing a full line of its 2012/2013 boards including the Euphoria, Helix, Zephyr, Storm and Odin.
Several features including the use of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sustainable hardwoods for the core of each board make for a formidable force down the slopes and in the half pipe. Triaxial fiberglass offers torsional stiffness, which provides a good edge hold for the board. Quadratic sidecuts help distribute pressure evenly on the snow and increase stability. Starting this season Venture Snowboards is building all boards with a topsheet material made from castor beans.
The castor bean topsheet and FSC materials are two of several ways Venture makes its business green. The company runs its entire operation on wind power, which it started in 2004. Venture Snowboards are made in the USA with no outsourcing or prefabricated components.
Venture Snowboards has five boards in its line this year: the Euphoria, Helix, Zephyr, Storm and Odin. Each board is suitable for a different style of snowboarding.
Euphoria, dubbed the Powder Surfer, was designed with input from Swedish-born snowboarder Johan Olofsson. This board has a pointy nose and fin in the rear. It’s available in both solid and split design in three lengths: 156, 162 and 168cm.
Helix, is the first board to have a twin-tipped, rockered splitty. Known as the “True Twin,” the board blazed a trail in backcountry riding. The Zephyr is known as “All Mountain” for its versatile, all terrain performance. The Storm is another powder and freeride board developed in conjunction with Silverton Mountain. The Storm is said to be chatter proof even on the most daunting steeps, yet agile to navigate trees and other landscaping objects.
Johan Olofsson lent his input on the Odin, a big mountain board. The Odin, named after the Norse god of war and wisdom, takes a cue from Scandinavian design concepts such as simplicity of form and function.
