Whether out hiking, camping, hunting or just spending a day in nature it isn’t a bad idea to have a good blade. This week we actually saw two!
First up is the L.L. Bean 100th Anniversary Swiss Army Knife, which likely is rugged enough to survive until the company’s bicentennial in 2112! It was made in partnership with Swiss Army Knife maker Wenger with reclaimed walnut wood that makes each model truly unique. In addition to the blade this knife offers a bottle opener, wire bender, nail file, nail cleaner, corkscrew, can opener, Philips screwdriver, mini-key ring and awl.
The Helle of Norway Skala blade, the second folding pocket knife to arrive in America when it is released in October exclusively from Sports Hansa, doesn’t offer the extra stuff of the Swiss model. It is just a single blade, but not a mere blade. This is a 12C27 stainless steel blade with a handle made of tropical hard Cocobolo wood. And while Helle isn’t 100 years old, the company is celebrating its own 80th anniversary this year.

Maybe some companies just know how to do things the old fashioned way!
