Hitting the bike often means working up a good sweat but even the hardest of the hardcore likely wouldn’t want to put in the miles in the desert outside Dubai, while riding in the city could mean dealing with some serious traffic. So the solution for those who want to get into the spin in the ultra-modern Middle Eastern city is to head to the gym.
Flywheel Sports Dubai has announced the opening of its indoor stadium cycling studio. The first was established in New York City in February 2010 by a team of entrepreneurs including fitness icon Ruth Zukerman; and has been designed to provide an intense and empowering cardio experience led by top-notch instructors in which each ride is a unique, full-body workout.
Unlike traditional “spin” classes, this takes it up a notch with special “stadium-style” seating, proprietary bikes with performance tracking technology, an in-house DJ and even cycling shoes.
“Rides at Flywheel are engineered to provide riders with the most effective and enjoyable workout possible,” said Flywheel co-founder and CEO Jay Galluzzo. “Flywheel has set the bar with an experience that is fun, intense and effective.”
Flywheel is also among the only indoor cycling studio to feature the state-of-the-art TorqBoard, a proprietary technology with on-bike and in-studio displays that allow for performance tracking and in-studio competition. Each Flywheel bike communicates with the central system in the studio, including the TorqBoards – large flat screen displays at the front of the room that show class leaders. After the ride, personal performance data is stored and made available to riders on their “My Performance” page online.
Sounds like just the thing for a city that already has an indoor ski resort – in the desert no less.
