Our friends at BikeRadar.com reported that Specialized has announced its new Turbo electric bike. What makes this Specialized bike so special is that it reportedly is the fastest ebike on the market, and can hit 28MPH.
The bike has been in development for three years and includes a 250-watt Specialized Turbo Direct Drive rear hub motor, a 432Wh lithium-ion battery mounted in the down tube (recharge time is reportedly two hours), and a wireless handlebar-mounted control unit that allows riders to control the bike’s integrated LED head and tail lights. That unit also displays the battery level, along with various other features common to bicycle computers. The rear brake can also help extend the range through th use of regenerative braking. Whether the bike would be street legal is of course another question but given that many commuters might be looking for alternatives with rising gasoline prices this could be special indeed.
