Danish Bicycle Super Highway

While it is well known that Amsterdam is a bicycle friendly city and that the Dutch love their two wheeled machines, great strides are being made by their Danish cousins. Copenhagen, another bike friendly city, has opened the proclaimed bicycle superhighway network this month. Originally intended with 13 routes, there are now 26 in total in the works, with 186.4 miles of dedicated paths for commuters and leisure riders.

The first route has launched this month, and collectively these are being called the bicycle superhighway and – when finished – will encompass not only Copenhagen but the greater metro area, including several municipalities. In addition to bike paths, it allows connections to local mass transit, which includes trains with cars designated for bicyclists. Additionally psychopaths avoid the mean streets and provide safe routes are riders to get to work and home again. One down, 25 to go until the Danish bicycle superhighway is complete.
