You might not be aware that different stories are sometimes posted on the KineticShift Facebook wall, but if you missed the post on the Apple iPod Nano recall, this information is worth passing on to all of our readers. Apple has decided to recall some on the early 1st generation iPod Nanos. Apparently the battery in some of these units are overheating and may “pose a safety risk.” The specific Nanos being recalled were sold between September 2005 and December 2006, and the issue has been traced to a single battery supplier.
Apple is replacing the affected units with identical, refurbished units. If you are unsure when your iPod Nano was purchased, simply visit Apple’s iPod Nano Replacement Website and enter your serial number. You will be walked through the process and find out at that point if you will be eligible for an exchange, free of charge. Apple will send you a postage-paid box to ship your defective Nano in for replacement.
If you find out that you do own one of the affected units, Apple recommends that you stop using your Nano immediately. Once Apple receives your Nano, it will take approximately six weeks for you to receive your replacement. The replacement iPod Nano will be covered under a 90 day warranty from the date of service.
It is going to be nice to receive a replacement iPod Nano after five years of use, but there is one downside. The same unit will not be sent back to you. The replacement Nano will be completely wiped of music and other content; plus if your Nano is personalize, you will receive a non-personalized replacement.
