Are you tired of having to grab a wrench each time you need to remove the wheels from your bike since it does not have quick release levers? Would you ride more often if only you could get your bike in the car to take to the park, but it is so inconvenient due to bolt-on wheels? Is your kid’s bike sitting in the garage with a flat tire due to you not being able to remove the wheel?

Coombs Cycling Technologies of Heber, Utah now offers a quick-release option for solid axle wheels: the Axle Release.

The Axle Release is a quick release option for bicycle wheels that have solid axles. What used to be a process involving removing the solid axle and replacing it with a hollow axle to allow the use of a quick release lever, now only involves removing and replacing the outside nuts with the Axle Release. For under $20 per wheel, the inconvenience of having to grab the correct wrench each time you want to remove a wheel from your bicycle is eliminated.

Along with manufacturing this unique solution for those with solid axles, the Axle Release was also designed with a feature to allow the quick release levers to be positioned correctly. Through the use of different thickness of washers, the levers can be positioned so that  they do not catch on objects and unexpectedly open. One advantage to traditional hollow axle quick releases is even if one side does open, the Axle Release on the opposite side of the axle should remain closed allowing you to safely come to a stop and fix the problem.

The Axle Release is available in a number of different thread combinations to fit most solid axles. From BMX bikes and beach cruisers to Sturmey-Archer hubs and even E-Bikes, the makers of Axle Release should have a quick release option to allow you to lose your axle nuts.
