ContourROAM Lets You Take it on the Go

Traveling the wilds should be dependent on where you feel comfortable taking your camera. To that end Contour has released the ContourROAM, a helmet mountable camera that will let you roam where you want to, roam around the world.

It features the same rugged cylindrical aluminum body and swiveling lens of the Contour+ and ContourGPS models, but unlike those travel capable cameras this one can be taken in the water, and it is waterproof to one meter for up to 30 minutes. So it is good for getting wet and wild but still isn’t meant for deep sea diving for extended underwater excursions.

The ContourROAM features a wide 170-degree lens, and will let you record images in HD quality with resolution modes including 720, 960 and 1080p, so when you return you’ll see the world as you saw it when you were there. The built-in batter will keep you recording for three hours on a single charge while you can capture up to eight hours of 1080p footage on a 32GB microSD card (sadly not included). Additionally the ContourROAM functions as 5megapixel still photo camera as well.

What really stands out is that it goes from being powered off to recording with the push of just one button. It is meant to be a fun and easy to use camera for capturing those adventures anywhere life takes you. Rather than powering on and then pressing record it simply go from power off to record.

It should be noted that this camera doesn’t feature Bluetooth support for iOS or Android devices, and it lacks the GPS functionality, as well as the mic input of the Contour+. All this is likely an acceptable trade off as it is priced to sell at $199.99, which is $100 less than the ContourGPS, and $300 less than the Contour+. Personally we feel with the cheaper price, 1080p resolution and the fact that it is waterproof those are enough of a plus for us. Time to get ROAM’ing.
