We’ve seen many attempts to converge technology together. Some, like the bicycle treadmill are just confusing, but the SkateCycle seems like real evolution and innovation. While it could be called a “hubless skateboard” that’s not quite the most accurate description for this deck – or rather deckles device. The FreeRider SkateCycle, which was conceived by Alon Karpman from Brooklyn Workshop with the help of Antonio Mezo, takes the basic skateboard concept, but ditches the hubs and trucks, and even the classic deck.
Hence this is why it isn’t really a skateboard, because there is no board. Instead, it features two wheels that are hinged at the front and back, while the axels inside the wheels essentially serve as the footpads. The hinges allow not only for easy folding when not in use, but also let rides making some interesting rotational turns. The video below shows you this board can do some tricks.
While we’re not expecting to see this in the next X-Games, this could be a real contender for the skateboard of the future, even if it isn’t technically a skateboard. And unlike many concepts, this one is real and can be purchased today.
