Crocs Move in on the Toning Shoe Market

It’s not difficult to find a pair of shoes that make toning claims, at any pricepoint. But the shoes tend to be on the bulky side, and more athletic or active looking such as sneakers or sandals ready to do some trekking. Crocs, the shoes with the identifiable clog-like look, just introduced a women’s fitness line called CrocsTone. Two styles include Skylar Flat ($49.99), which looks like a mule-style flat; and Skylar Clog ($59.99), which is based on the Crocs form of a clog with a heel strap. A third style, the Skylar Flip ($49.99) is more like a flip-flop. The toning action is built discreetly into the shoe so you won’t find yourself waddling around like with other toning shoes with a concave sole. Three layers do all the work.

  • A carefully designed, sculpted, spherical outsole creates a variety of walking rhythms to spark a spectrum of muscle activity, enhancing the wellness benefits of CrocsTone shoes.
  • A Croslite material footbed cradles the supports of the foot, helping to ease muscle fatigue in the feet and legs and providing relieve to the musculoskeletal system.
  • A cutting edge toning ring provides stability so that there are gentle shifts in foot movement while walking to stimulate upper and lower leg muscles.

The sole of the shoe has ovals starting at the heel and the ball of the foot that emanate out to the edge of the foot’s profile. These create the a slightly rounded surface to walk on. In a video n the Crocs website, one woman says she feels slightly imbalanced, which she believes will make her work harder to walk. Other women say they feel like they are walking on a cloud — and yet toning their legs.

While these CrocsTone styles shouldn’t replace athletic shoes, they are an easy choice for a walk around the neighborhood; a trip to the store; a garden or pool party or any casual trips on foot. Anything that gets you moving and keeps you comfortable is a plus.

It’s a shame CrocsTones are being released at the start of fall instead of spring or summer. However we’re sure they will make an appearance under a few trees this winter and just wait patiently until spring.
