There has been no shortage of devices, gizmos and gadgets to help you lose weight. A lot of these devices, gizmos and gadgets require you to wear something, where the data can be synced to a computer. That’s good, because it lets you see detailed results of your activity and of course helps you set goals, but it’s bad because it requires people to be very proactive. Stop syncing the device one day, and you might not bother wearing it the next. There has to be an easier way to see the results.
This is BodyMedia comes in. The Pittsburgh-based company, which was founded in 1999, has long developed automated body-monitoring products for the health technology industry, and now it could be making a move to the consumer market. TMCnet.com is reporting that the company is looking to introduce a mobile phone app that would work with its proprietary armband sensor. This app, which should be available soon for the Apple iPhone and Google Android devices, would provide health statistics in real time. The apps will be able to help users track as many as 9,000 different health variables, including factors such as caloric intake, physical activity and even sleep efficiency. And speaking of efficiency, the app will allow users to get the information straight to a device, meaning that users can more effectively track their progress.
