Can nearly 10 million people be wrong? When it comes to fitness video games we don’t think so. The Zumba Fitness franchise is still going strong, and that is something to celebrate. This month saw the arrival of Zumba Fitness World Party for Microsoft’s Kinect for Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Wii U. The game will also debut later this month as a launch day title for the Xbox One. Continue reading The World is Ready to Party With Zumba

First Person Shooter
We do love our first person shooter video games, but these don’t really provide much of a workout. While we’ve worked up a sweat from playing these it isn’t the kind of “good sweat” that you get from actually running around. Tek Recon could be the new ultimate first person shooter.
It isn’t as messy as paintball and doesn’t really require a special place to play like laser tag. This game has players use special “blasters” that shoot soft projectiles up to 75 feet, while these can be integrated with an iOS or Android device that provides a heads up display, radar tracking and even in-game chat. The result is an action game that is very much like a video game but one that requires real world activity.
The developers are now engaged in a Kickstarter campaign. We think of this as their way of doing a little recon for Tek Recon. Video after the jump

The Games Begin on Xbox 360 and PS3
While the Olympic trials are underway gamers can get a chance to go for the gold beginning this week. SEGA of America announced the release of London 2012 – The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3.
The game will offer single and multiplayer completion and will feature support for the Kinect for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation Move.
This will allow gamers to get off the couch and not just watch the events but see if they have the stuff to go all the way. There is even an Online Multiplayer mode that allows players to show their National Pride as points go towards a global leader board.
So if you didn’t qualify for the games, don’t have a plane ticket to London and can’t wait until July 27 to watch it on TV, now is your chance to go to the game.
iSurf Simulators
While all eyes in the world of video games maybe on Los Angeles and E3 this week, last week i-Surfsimulators – who have been making surfing simulations since 1992 in their native Hawaii – have announced the launch of a new line of portable event systems that provide virtual “waterless” surfing, including two-player-on-screen interactive games.
The software was designed so that it can be easily custom tailored by anyone who has access to any standard PC – no programming skills needed. And while i-Surfsimulators is about events, we think that if this company talked to those at E3 it could easily be converted into a game worthy for home play as well.
Hollywood Workout Coming to Xbox 360 and Wii
“Going Hollywood” usually doesn’t have the best connotation, but that could change with the newly announced Harley Pasternak’s Hollywood Workout. This upcoming exercise video game from Majesco Entertainment will arrive this fall for Kinect for the Microsoft Xbox 260 and Ninteno Wii, provides gamers with access to the fitness program used by many in Hollywood today. To help players get fit best-selling author and celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak arrives in digital form with the 5-Factor program that promises to make it easy to get fit.
While we doubt it will transform the average gamer into a Hollywood super star it should beat another round of Halo or Mario Kart!

E3 2011: adidas Teams With THQ
Trade shows such as the Electronic Entertainment Expo are known to get gamers up and running – that is running to see games and to get to appointments. The rest of the time gamers need some urging to get that much activity, but now adidas is set to team up with THQ to bring the popular miCoach interactive athletic training system to video game consoles.
The new collaboration is set for release next year, and will allow gamers to train using the miCoach hardware, including heart rate monitor (or any ANT+ compatible monitor), which will connect to the THQ’s new video game title for the Kinetic for Xbox 360 or PlayStation Move via miCoach Pacer and miCoarch mobile app.
“We’re taking our successful miCoach line and broadening its reach to an even larger audience, who we hope will find motivation and inspiration from adidas and our roster of star athletes,” said Simon Drabble, Director of miCoach BU for adidas. “In simple words, this combination of console technology and training for sports supports everybody to become better athletes, regardless of their fitness level.”
Players will get an onscreen trainer to guide them through hours of on-screen training and motivating game experience. The system will get gamers toned up beginning next year.
