SHOT SHOW 2012: Under Armor Controls Smells

There is no denying that when heading to the great outdoors most people will come back home smelling worse for it. This is part of the outdoor experience, and in a way if you don’t smell bad you probably didn’t do enough. That’s true for fitness, but sometimes a strong scent won’t just have your loved one sending you to the shower, for hunters it can keep the prey away.

At SHOT Show in Las Vegas Under Armor, a leader in athletic performance apparel are introducing new Zeolite-based UA Scent Control Technology in its 2012 Whitetail Collection. This helps hunters remain undetected when in the field via a silver anti-microbial that promises to last 10 times longer than commonly used carbon-based technologies. Under(wear) Armor

The U.S. Department of Defense is often accused of casting a wide web, and not that include the “Warrior Web.” This isn’t some nefarious program to wage a secret war in some distant land, but instead it could protect those soldiers who do travel to hostile lands in the not too distant future.

Essentially the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) from the U.S. Department of Defense is developing a prototype one-piece suit intended for soldier use, ala a type of armored underwear, or underwear armor. This “Warrior Web” also covers more than the privates, and certainly more than just privates. All soldiers in the field could benefit from this futuristic attire that could protect soldiers from injury, help the wearer actually sustain body energy and even keep track of vital signs, not to mention look pretty cool in the process. SHOT Show: Universal Combat Shirt

This shirt is strong enough for soldiers on the front line, so while it is a bit pricier than other base layers, you know it is going to stand up to some true extremes. Massif has been producing the US Army issue Army Combat Shirt, and now the company has introduced the commercial Universal Combat Shirt, which is based on the ACS.

The UCS is designed for wear under armor – should you require armor that is – and it even provides flame protection, making this ideal for search and rescue teams, and others that might find themselves in such hazardous conditions. It features FR stretch fabrics that are still lightweight, breathable and even highly wicking to keep the sweat off you.

So what is the big difference between this and the ACS? For one the new shirts are available in a wider range of colors, including tan, OD and MultiCam – sorry, it is still military styled so you’re going to get those military colors. But it still features the low-profile shoulder pockets to provide easy access to gear, with durable mesh pocket bags to increase ventilation and flat seams that won’t chafe under armor or other layers.
