World’s Greatest!

Timbuk-2How do you celebrate a silver anniversary? By proclaiming you’re the world’s greatest. That is what Timbuk2 is doing this month as it celebrates its 25th anniversary with the release of an update to its Classic Messenger Bag. To trump a classic it went with “World’s Greatest Messenger Bag.”

It is 25 percent lighter than the classic, and features Cordura 940D Endurance Nylon, which provides higher tear strength and is also water repellent. This bag also offers a double-loop cam buckle offers easy fit adjustment while eliminating excess webbing, an adjustable shoulder strap with a permanent air mesh strap pad adds comfort and new corner flaps keep out water. The new bag also has a low profile top grab handle.

It takes a lot to be the greatest but Timbuk2 went all out with this one.

Timbuk2 Goes Full-Cycle

We’ve seen a number of innovative bags from Timbuk2 this season, but this month the company has gone Full-Cycle, with its new brand of recycled/upcycled bags. These feature fabrics and webbing that come from recycled plastic bottles, while the straps and buckles are made from post-industrial and post-consumer materials.

The Full-Cycle collection features a messenger bag, backpack, tote bag and iPad/Kindle Fire Sleeve. So no matter what you bringing the Full-Cycle should have you covered with an upcycled bag.

Timbuk2 Bags Feature Power Supply

We’ve seen a few new “upcycled” bags recently, which make good use of old tubes and other materials. Timbuk2’s new bags aren’t using upcycled materials but they could instead power UP a device, as the bag maker has teamed up with Joey Energy. Continue reading Timbuk2 Bags Feature Power Supply

Made in America: Timbuk2 Bags

Timbuk2 Original Messenger Bag

Hewlett-Packard, Mattel, and Apple Computer – what do these companies all have in common? They started in someone’s house or garage and have grown into multi-billion dollar corporations. The bag company, Timbuk2, was also started in a someone’s home, but unlike those other companies, they have chosen to keep the design and manufacturing of a number of their products close to where it all began for them in San Francisco, California.   Continue reading Made in America: Timbuk2 Bags

Sweat-proof Wallet Ready for Ride Along

The days of stuffing your pocket with your ID and emergency cash are over thanks to this low-profile wallet. Designed by Timbuk2 in conjunction with the Mission Cycling Club, the Mission Cycling Wallet is an athlete’s best friend. It’s thin and small enough to slide into a jersey pocket, but packs enough slots and storage for carrying cash, credit cards, ID, and even your smartphone.

The front panel features a clear window that lets you operate your touchscreen phone, whereas the wallet’s back panel houses numerous slots for your cards and ID. As an added bonus, a sealed zipper offers protection from excess sweat or the rogue rain shower while a small slot gives you access to your phone’s headphone jack.

Timbuk2 Rolls Out Bags with Bike-Friendly Features

Whether you bike your commute to work, are out for fun or extensive exercise, you may have some gear to tote along. A shoulder bag gets in the way, and sometimes even your standard backpack feels inappropriate while riding.

Timbuk2 has a few new bag designs that address the specific needs of cyclists. Those are streamlined, well-balanced and with the right pockets to store laptops and tablets, every day items and even bike-specific gear such as helmets and locks.

While the bag company showed its upcoming products for the year at CES earlier this month, some of its bike-friendly bags won’t be available until about September’s Interbike. The new line of backpacks,  includes the Amnesia, Hemlock and Q. The former is something we’ll be sure to remember as we wait for it to arrive.

The Amnesia features a ventilated back panel to help ensure that you don’t get too hot under the collar, while custom-fit straps give a truer, more comfortable fit. The refined weave 840 ballistic nylon pack offers a “swing around” side access compartment that can fit a laptop or tablet up to 15-inches. Separate front organizer pockets are available for accessories. This bag features an bottle opener on one of the straps. Once you’re off your bike you can use the paired Velcro loops on the bag’s face to secure your helmet or headphones – we recommend you keep the helmet on your head while on the bike. Koyono Pushes Biking to Work

As a former resident of New York City, I’ve had the occasion to be bike to work from time to time, and apart from the traffic, there are issues of staying clean and not showing up a big sweaty mess. Fortunately I had a place to change, and a safe place to stash my bike.

But one issue remained, if I had to bring work home – or ever needed to bring a laptop, it meant trouble. I was a commuter not a bike messenger, and thus I didn’t have the right gear. How the times have changed. Koyono is one of several retailers offering new bike friendly accessories.

We had seen some of the new offerings – such as Timbuk2’s line of cycle friendly bags – at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show. All this makes almost makes me wish I could commute to work (instead of being one of those work from home types), but only almost!
