The Swiss Army Knife isn’t the only name in blades. The Baladeo Le Retro Knife evokes the knives that the company made in France in the early 1950s, and as the name suggests it has a true retro look but is far from light on features. It includes two blades, a saw, a can opener, a punch, a corkscrew, a piercing tool, and, of course, a bottle opener, along with a stainless steel body and true blonde horn handle. Thus it truly mixes form and function like a good knife should.

Cyber Army Knife
The Victorinox CyberTool Lite Swiss Army Knife takes the versatile blade into the 21st century and beyond. It expands on the original Cyber Tool, and offers knives, hex, Torx and Philips bits, wire cutters and pliers and now adds an 8x magnifying glass and LED light.
Designed for the IT pros and the like we think this could still be a good all around pocket knife for the tech savvy adventurer as well.
Hunt Down
Just because the knife has the moniker “Hunter Pro” doesn’t mean you have to actually be a hunter, or a pro. This tactical knife might still be the one to have when you’re out camping or hiking. It is made by Victorinox, the folks behind the Swiss Army Knives, and this folding blade design is optimized for one-hand access while the heavy gauge stainless steel blade locks securely in place.
It offers an ergonomic grip that will have you cutting like a pro.

Outdoor Retail Show 2013: Junior Blades
The Swiss Army Knife has been the gold standard for pocket knives for generations, and this year Wenger is introducing a Junior version for younger campers, backpackers and scouts. The Junior Swiss Army Knife features a locking safety blade with rounded tip to help reduce blade-related accidents, and also includes scissors, Philips head screwdriver, nail file, nail cleaner, toothpick, tweezers and key ring – because what would a Swiss Army Knife be without lots of nifty tools!
iPhone Case Does What Apps Can’t
Apple’s commercials once noted “there is an app for that” but let’s be honest there never was an app that could cut wood, open a bottle or loosen/tighten a screw. But now there is an iPhone case in the works that features an aircraft grade alloy multi-tool fitted inside a polycarbonate shell.
While not ready for retail yet, the Task One’s makers are looking to raise funding via Indiegogo. This casing essentially transforms the iPhone into a Swiss Army Knife with a plethora of gadgets including useful bicycle tools, including a 2.5-inch knife, 1.8-inch sawblade, small and large flathead screwdrivers, medium Phillips screwdriver, pliers with integrated 3-8mm wrench, wirecutters, six metric Allen wrenches, a spoke wrench, wire stripper, ruler and a bottle opener. Swiss Army Charger
We’ve seen a number of Swiss Army Knife related products, but Wenger, the maker of the famous blade from the Alps has introduced something completely different, namely a solar panel for outdoor use that includes a built-in rechargeable battery pack for use with smartphone, tablet, MP3 player, digital camera or GPS device. The Wenger solar charger isn’t packed with blades, but it is multifunctional and can be used while stationary or even when hiking as it can strap over a bag or pack.

Whether out hiking, camping, hunting or just spending a day in nature it isn’t a bad idea to have a good blade. This week we actually saw two!

It was made in partnership with Swiss Army Knife maker Wenger with reclaimed walnut wood that makes each model truly unique. In addition to the blade this knife offers a bottle opener, wire bender, nail file, nail cleaner, corkscrew, can opener, Philips screwdriver, mini-key ring and awl. Video after the jump
L.L. Bean Reaches the Big 100
It is hard to imagine but when out retailer L.L. Bean opened its doors the Titanic was about to set sail. That may have ended badly for the “unsinkable” ocean liner, but 100 years later and L.L. Bean is still sailing along. Not only that but the retailer has some big products to help celebrate this milestone. 100th Anniversary L.L. Bean Products
SHOT Show: Get Your Sidekick and Wingman
As any good adventurer knows, it is good to have a sidekick for your journey. Likewise, a wingman comes in handy for so much more than just cruising the bars. A sidekick and a wingman should be reliable through thick and thin, and now you can actually buy one of each – of the multi-tool variety that is.
At last week’s SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Leatherman introduced the Sidekick and Wingman – two new tools that feature contemporary design for the first-time multi-tool buyers. Both tools will be made from 420 stainless steel and feature Leatherman’s popular outside-accessibility-to-tools design, including a saw, knife, scissors, screwdriver, pliers, bottle/can opener, serrated knife and much more.
While meant for the price-conscience buyer – the Sidekick will retail for $29.99 and the Wingman at $39.99 – when they arrive in September of this year, as with other Leatherman products these products still feature the company’s industry-leading, no-hassle, 25 year warranty. Move over Swiss Army Knife, we’d rather have the American-made Sidekick or Wingman with us on our next journey.
