SRAM’s Show Of Force

SRAM-Force-CX2This month SRAM released details of its new Force CX2 group, a single-chainring cyclocross racing parts kit that reportedly borrows technology from its single-chainring mountain bike groups. Force CX1 uses SRAM’s X-Sync chainring technology, which uses alternating wide- and narrow-teeth to improve chain retention. The chainring design is combined with a rear derailleur with a roller bearing clutch, X-Sync pulleys and other technologies to improve chain retention. The parts will be available July 1.

Serious Ride to Work

BMCIf you’re commuting to work on BMC’s ACO1 then you are riding in style. The company introduced the redesigned urban commuter for 2014 and the AC01 borrows aero technology from BMC’s timemachine aero road bikes, and geometry from the company’s gran fondo bikes. Other features include a cutaway seattube to allow the same chainstay dimension as the BMC grand fondo GF01 (412mm) while still allowing room for fenders and wider tires. Up front, the fork is deisgned for minimal length while accepting fenders and wider tires.

The AC01 is slimmed down from last year and is 500 grams light, while the lateral and torsional stiffness was increased. Accessories also include BMC’s proprietary Curana fenders, which can be installed in seconds. Lighting and anti-theft devices also are even available from BMC. The bike is available in four colors and seven component packages, ranging from a Shimano Alfine 8-speed internal drivetrain with Gates belt drive to an Alfine Di2 group or SRAM XX1 group. It won’t come cheap to ride this one to work, and you may be brown bagging lunch as a result. The complete bikes range in price from $1,499 for a Shimano Soro-equipped model, up to $4,999 for the Alfine Di2 or XX1 bike.

More sights from the Interbike 2013 – including World Jersey’s notable “2nd Amendment” jersey (above), which we thought made a powerful statement! Kudos to this company for not being one to pull punches. Continue reading Interbike 2013: Sights From the Show Floor Day 2

SRAM Turns It Up to 11

SRAMSRAM has officially unveiled the details of its new Red 22 11-speed hydraulic and mechanical group. BikeRadar.com reported this week that SRAM will add an 11-speed groupo to its bicycle component lineup, and this will include hydraulic brake options – which can even be retrofitted to existing 10-speed systems.

The new 11-speed groups will be “trim free” so that these can be used on the full width of the cassette on either chain ring without needing to adjust the front derailleur. The new Red 22 and Force 22 groupsets are available now.

SRAM Taking it to 11?

SRAMWas it an April Fool’s joke last week or did someone at SRAM just watch Spinal Tap? We ask because the company seems to be ready to release a new 11 speed cassette, which isn’t surprising as both Campagnolo and Shimano have 11-speed road groups.

This isn’t actually just one better than the old “10 speeds” either – as technically those had five speed cassettes – so this is technically a 22-gear system, which brings up the other interesting point. SRAM released a 22-second video with numerous references to 22. In other words half of 11. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Bicycle Rollers

When we think of bicycle rollers we think of the trainer system, but bicycle component maker SRAM had something else in mind with its new Carry-on Roller Bag, which is an airline compliant bag with deep main compartment, multiple inner and outer pockets and features smooth roller wheels to get you through the airport and wherever your journey takes you. Then you can unpack your bike gear inside and get in a ride!

From BikeRadar: Can bike racers dance? SRAM goes Gangnam Style
When professional cyclocross racers practice something, they’re typically practicing skills on their bike — training. But when SRAM asked some of its top riders to dance in a video spoof of the globally popular Gangnam Style, many racers found themselves in their living rooms, practicing dance moves. SRAM Offers Garmin Mount

Soon bike shops could have a whole department dedicated to mounts for Garmin cycling computers, as SRAM now offers mounts that look quite similar to the Quarq version with its own SRAM Quickview. What sets this one apart is actually that there are multiple versions that can work with the Garmin 200, 500 and 800.

It is made of hybrid composite material that is meant to cut down vibration to the head unit while it is still firmly on the bar. It weighs just 20g and mounts with a single T25 Torx bolt and will available in time for the holidays.

Eurobike Preview: Tern Looks to Swoop In

Urban transport bike maker Tern certainly took the folding bike market by storm in recent years, and now the company looks to swoop in again, fittingly with its Swoop series of bicycles that will feature an ultra low-step frame design. The Swoop offers a top tube that is only 11-inches (28cm) off the ground, which makes it one of the lowest step bikes on the market.

The design offers the promise of a low center of gravity that enhances stability, especially for less experienced cyclists. It also offers an upright riding geometry because who really needs to “race” to the office or store, and this puts less stress on the arms and neck, while also aiding in the ability to see the road ahead. SRAM Rolls Out pART Project 2012

Last year SRAM looked to make art out of bike parts and raise money for a good cause. This was of course the SRAM pART Project for World Bicycle Relief. The first project raised $140,000, which provided 5,000 bikes donated to riders in Africa. And it thankfully didn’t end with it. Continue reading SRAM Rolls Out pART Project 2012

SRAM pART Project to go to Auction

There is an old saying, “I don’t know art, but I know what I like.” We may not know art either, but we did like the SRAM pART Project that we saw at Interbike. This project consisted of sculptures made of bicycle components and now SRAM President Stanley R. Day is making sure that the art does some good.

He has joined with World Bicycle Relief Founder F.K. Day to announce an exhibition and auction at Chicago’s Gallery 1028 to take place on Wednesday, November 30. This will be the grand finale of the SRAM pART Project, with the proceeds, including the admission fee of $134 fee, going to World Bicycle Relief – that price essentially is the cost of one donated bicycle.
