Dri+Cap Equals Dry Lens

We’ve seen many cameras that can endure the wilds, including some new DSLRs. But a little bit of humidity can still ruin a camera. So if you’re bringing that SLR to the jungles, or just outside on a humid day, have a BRNO Dri+Cap at the ready.

This special camera lens cover can help protect a camera from fungus, mold and other dangerous effects of humidity. It features a silica gel pack encased in the rear of the cap and maintains a reasonable 35-45 percent humidity, while O-rings work to keep excess moisture out as well. The packet even changes color to let you know when it is time to change the pack.

Pentix SLR a Rugged Camera

We certainly love the idea of a rugged camera for those times when we head off the beaten path. But we miss the functionality our SLR gives us. We’ve seen a few attempts to provide an SLR that can go rugged, but until now we haven’t really believed it.

The Pentax K-30 is a weather and dust resistant digital SLR that offers a lightweight and compact body, along with an SAFOX IXi+ AF sensor module, and 16megapixel APS-C sized CMOS image sensor. This camera can of course handle 1080p HD movie clips, as well as high-speed burst shooting and it features shake reduction as well. It will be available in July for about $850. And while it can handle some dust or water or even the cold, this one still isn’t quite a truly rugged camera – so don’t drop it!

Housing Bubble

There are many rugged cameras that can do the underwater thing, but only a few SLR cameras that can get anywhere near the wet stuff. However, Nauticam has released a new housing for the Panasonic DMC-GX-1 camera. The NA-GX1offers an ergonomic grip that is sculpted into the housing, and ports for the various lenses that can be used underwater including Lumix 14-42mm kit lens, the Lumix G Fisheye 8mm, Lumix 7-14mm, and the Panasonic Leica 45mm macro lens.

The NA-GX1 is rated for 100 meters and features a housing back that is sealed with an easy to operate safety clasp to avoid accidental opening when going deep.
