Nike Golf’s Lucky 13

Nike Golf has proven that 13 can be a lucky number the company is FREE to say. Nike Golf has introduced the new TW 13, which is inspired by Nike FREE technology. The distinctive shoes debuted last summer when Tiger Woods roared out with these, and now consumers will be able to get their feet in them beginning later this week.

The inspiration behind the Nike TW 13 footwear starts with the man himself, as Tiger Woods asked for a shoe that gave him a performance fit and feel that he experienced with his Nike FREE shoes that he used for running and training. The result is this shoe, which offers a natural motion engineered outsole that is designed to mimic and conform to the natural motion of the foot, coupled with the protection and traction of a lightweight performance golf shoe. This innovative outsole further allows the athlete to keep contact with the ground longer, better harnessing the energy of the foot to the shoe and, therefore, the shoe to the ground. Big Costs for the Little League

What happened to the days when baseball was more than just being about the money? We aren’t talking about the billionaire owners or millionaire players – we’re talking about the cost of Little League, which today apparently costs big dollars.

The New York Times last week reported that the cost for parents is anything but little – and it gives new meaning to the concept of “pay to play.” So what are we talking? As noted by the Times: “If you have not outfitted a little slugger lately, prepare for sticker shock. The youth baseball circular for one major retailer advertises bats in the $219.99 to $249.99 range.” Add in the $129.99 glove, $39.99 batting helmet, $19.99 batting gloves and shoes for $51.99 and today’s kids might need to become free agents just to play at the sand lot! Minimal Goes Casual

Who says the concept of a minimal shoe should be confined to running? Much like compression clothing, minimal footwear now represents relaxation and recovery as much as it does competition.

With a scant 4mm drop the New Balance NewSky certainly qualifies as a minimalist shoe, whether it’s worn about the house or as an everyday shoe. At four to five oz. you may decide to throw away your favorite house slippers, and who could blame you? They have a decidedly fun and yet urban look. Video after the jump

Shoes That Suction

Sometimes with shoes it is good to get a grip, and the OluKai Maliko shoes are certainly about getting such a grip. These feature a sticky rubber sole along with an aggressive traction pattern that also includes suction cups. But the foot print on these is unique in that these offer a double toe as well, which is designed to provide greater balance and dexterity. This is done by separating the big toe from the rest of the toes and along with the suction cups provides more traction on slick and wet terrain, but reportedly should give a grip on dry terrain as well. New Balance Hits the Trail

There is an old saying that when out on the trails you should take on pictures and leave only footprints, and while you can’t really reduce the size of your footprint the New Balance Minimus Trail might be about as small a footprint as a running trail can shoe can get. It follows the barefoot running trend with a minimal shoe that features just a 4mm drop from heel to toe, while elastic across the forefoot helps keep its securely snug on the foot. While it doesn’t come with a rock plate it does still offer some padding with the minimal sole, and the webbing/matrix mesh cover can still stand up to cool and wet conditions. It is about as “Minimus” as it gets on the trails.

Hike, Bike and More With X-Alp Shoes

Mountain bike shoes are good for mountain biking and not so good for hiking, while hiking or trail shoes don’t always work so well on the bike. What’s a multi-sport athlete to do? The answer is to consider the Pearl Izumi X-Alp series.

The newest model, the Seek IV WRX is a $130 mountain bike shoe that will let you clip in when you need, offering a stiff nylon plate to make sure there is adequate power transfer, while still offering padding and a bit of flexibility to be used as trail shoes. These are still hybrids so the WRX aren’t going to be better on the bike than dedicated mountain bike shoes, nor will these replace trail runners. But for those who want to be able to hike and bike with a single pair of shoes, these will do the trick very well. More photos after the jump

Made in America: Okabashi Brand Shoes

In a country of over 300 million people, the United States has very few manufacturers making shoes for all of those feet. Most of those jobs have headed outside our boarders into countries with lower wages and lower environmental regulations, but not all have left. In fact, there are some companies that have started up and are thriving based on the idea of creating a niche product instead of trying to become overly diversified. One such company is Okabashi Brands, Inc. of Buford, GA. Their low-cost, environmentally friend shoes are 100% recyclable and are made in America. Of Course Nike Can Dunk!

httpv://youtu.be/7XS4GFnP53c

Expecting a Nike shoe to be able to dunk is… well, like expecting Michael Jordon to dunk. Of course it can happen and more importantly will happen. But we’re not talking about basketball this time, we’re talking about golf! The Nike Dunk, which is available now, has been weatherized and spiked. Thus it can handle a very different kind of dunk as the video above proves! Press Release after the jump

Converse ConTain Fit New Line

Converse DEFCON

While the lockout may be keeping the pros off the court, Converse is still in the game with a new line of basketball shoes. The Converse DEFCON and Pro Leather 2K11 shoes feature ConTain Fit Technology in the upper, unique to Converse, which first appeared in the Star Player Evo shoe. These form a lightweight brace around the foot and providing breathable structural support and cushioning. ConTain Fit further contours the foot and transfers all physical force directly to the traction system for increased on-court mobility.

The Converse DEFCON shoe, which is named after the military term identifying defense readiness, was built for players to quickly transition from offense to defense. The DEFCON shoes further integrate the upper and midsole with direct-inject EVA foam for lightness, breathability and containment, and also comes with an OrthoLite sockliner providing long-lasting comfort during extended wear. Transform Any Shoes Into Golf Spikes

There seems to be specific shoes for just about every sport under the sun, for use on the field, on a bike and of course on the greens – the latter being golf shoes. Now not to bemoan those who like the Carrier Bradshaw approach to shoe shopping/collecting, but are all these shoes all really necessary? For those who like to play golf on occasion but don’t see the need for another pair of shoes, there is a solution, the Quick Spikes, which are being billed as “the temporary golf spike solution.”

These are designed as an alternative to golf shoes, and fit over any pair of regular shoes, yet provide the same snug and secure feel for the golf course. These will ensure that feet don’t slip, even on wet grass conditions. In fairness, these probably aren’t a replacement for true golf shoes for the hardcore players, but for those who only get into the swing of thing now and again, we say go for the Quick Spikes! Adidas Sprints to Barefoot Training Shoe for the Gym

While we hope not to see a bear market on Wall Street, the barefoot training shoe market is off and running. Adidas announced this week the launch of its new adipure Trainer, the first barefoot training shoe designed specifically for the gym. This shoe promotes pure and natural movement that can help strengthen muscles, build balance and promote dexterity.

“A lot of engineering went into making your foot a high performance machine,” said Mark Verstegen, founder of Athletes’ Performance. “To achieve your full potential during a workout, focus on how your foot interacts with the ground in the same way you think about how your hand interacts with a ball or a bat. Using your foot’s natural power and movement will help you strengthen muscles you never knew you had in your feet, lower legs and throughout your core.” Video after the jump
