Outdoor Retail Show: Minimus Hi-Rez Shoes Promise Big Step Forward for Running

The minimal running shoe concept continues to take foot, and at the recent Outdoor Retail Show New Balance offered a look at its Minimus Hi-Rez, a running shoe that weighs just 4.3-ounces yet provides a reasonable amount of cushion and protection for the wearer.

The secret is the hexagon rubber pods on the sole. 42 of these unconnected nubs, which are mounted on the soft foot bed, provide cushion for those who want to go minimal but not quite barefoot. The sole is flexible and each pod moves independently as the wearer walks or funs, but still provides that moderate protection.

The shows will be available later this summer.

Review: Adidas AdiPure Trainer Toe Shoes

I was recently given the opportunity to try out the new Adidas AdiPure Trainer Toe Shoes and give my opinion on what I thought of them. So, I figured why not give it a go.

At first glance you can already see that it will be a new and interesting experience. I have never tried the minimalist toe style shoes in the past and was intrigued on how it would be. I pulled the shoes out of the cloth bag that they came in and was caught off guard by their red color and unusual toe design. I immediately took off my socks and slid the shoes on to my bare feet. I found it a little difficult, at first, to get all of my toes in to the areas of the shoes in which they belonged. But, once I did I found that they were very comfortable on my feet. It was almost like wearing gloves. Continue reading Review: Adidas AdiPure Trainer Toe Shoes

Commuter Shoes for Riders

There are plenty of bicycles designed for commuters, and a lot of accessories including bags and apparel. But one piece of equipment often missing is the right shoe! Road and mountain shoes can be a problem as many buildings don’t like the idea of cleats on their precious floors. This makes it hard to keep a pair of shoes at the office and commute in with bike shoes.

But the Teva freeride shoes could work well for those who don’t mind flat pedals, which aren’t a bad idea for commuting. The shoes offer Pedalink tread to grip the pedals, while offering enough style that you might not need to change them for work.

Adidas Primed For Running

This week Adidas introduced its new adizero Primeknit running shoe, its first one-piece upper performance design that features seamless engineering technology. The shoe, which is the first of its kind for a running shoe, uses new technology to digitally knit the entire upper in a single continuous piece.

The knitting fused yarn provides flexibility and support where it is need, and no lining or reinforcement is necessary as the strength of the shoe comes from the yarn itself, which is knitted in distinct grid patterns to provide ventilation. This provides precision construction while eliminating additional materials and thus producing little waste. Continue reading Adidas Primed For Running

Adidas Ready to Tee Off With Golf Shoes

Adidas looks to go down the same path as Nike and it ends on the golf course. The shoe maker, known for lightweight and comfortable running shoes, has introduced a line of lightweight and comfortable golf shoes.

The Adidas Golf Crossflex take ultra light running shoes, added some waterproofing – while still allowing the shoes to breathe – and outfitted it with 96 “strategically-placed triangular traction lugs.” The result is a shoe that will be good on the course, offering plenty of traction along with comfort – and at a very good price.

Cycling in the Gold

The Olympic bicycle road race is less than two weeks away and while only one man and one woman will walk away with gold, Shimano is providing 22 sponsored Olympic cyclists with gold-adorned road shoes to encourage them to go for it!

This is really just a cosmetic change to the SH-R315 shoe, but to get a pair you’ll have to be one of those 22 racers. One rider who won’t likely get to wear a pair in the games will be Samuel Sánchez, the 2008 gold medalist, as he crashed last week in a stage of the Tour de France and was forced to retir with a broken finger and badly bruised upper back.

For the rest of us, we’ll just have to “settle” for the SH-R315

Nike Gets Football With New Boot

Nike is a big player on the grid iron for the way football is played in America, but it also has a new boot for the pitch as well. The new Nike GS Football Boot – designed for what we in the States call soccer – promises to be the lightest and most innovative shoe yet. It is also quite green, and not just in color.

The shoe or boot as it is labeled is made from castor beans, which require little water to grow and thus have little environmental impact. This material also makes for a shoe that is 15 percent lighter than traditional thermoplastic polyurethane. Still not convinced it is green – consider that the polyester tongue and quarter are made form 95 percent recycled plastic bottles. Continue reading Nike Gets Football With New Boot

Reebok Zigs and Zags Again with Shark

Sharks supposedly have rows of teeth, which allows them to take a serious bite into their prey. The Reebok Zigtech Shark can eat up the road much the same way. It features a traction segment on the sole that is inspired by shark teeth to give runners excellent traction and durability, while the 20-degree angles are designed to promote sheering and horizontal cushioning. The mesh upper, which is inspired by a shark gill, also offers synthetic overlays for breathable support.

It might be safe to go back in the water, but on the road you’re opponents won’t know how you caught them. Video and more images after the jump

Sprint Spikes Developed With 3D Printing

One of the marvels of 3D printing is that it allows designers to make small modifications during the prototype stage. Even not so small changes can be accomplished as another model can be printed off.

Luc Fusaro used this technology to develop lightweight sprint shoes that are customizable for individual runners. Fusaro developed the shoes as his final master degree solo project at the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London, and it began with him scanning the feet of an athlete to create a digital 3D model. The Feather 2 also offers SprintWeb, a lightweight mesh construction that provides support as well as breathability. The adiPrene+ and adiWear rubber outsole will ensure durability and traction while running. Continue reading Run Light as an Adizero Feather 2

FiveFinger Shoes Gets Fashionable

While the barefoot running shoes that fit the wearer much like a glove have become increasingly popular most of these have the visual appeal of a pair of gloves for the feet. It is to the point that we’ve wondered why the companies don’t just give up and make these look like hairy Hobbit’s feet!

Apparently we weren’t the only ones to bemoan the bland colors and lack of style. Vibram FiveFingers announced this week that the Seeya LS will arrive this fall and promises the new shoes to be a “stylish streetwear cross trainer.” The shoes will add a splash of color, but beyond the style the shoes still will weigh in at just five ounces on each foot, and will feature a non-stretch polyester mesh upper and a 2mm EVA insole and grippy rubber on the outsole. Bike Shoes That You Wouldn’t Know Are Bike Shoes

Bike shoes have gotten a lot more stylish in recent years, and while there have been bike sandals and other casual footwear that can be used when riding, the truth is that bike shoes are bike shoes. But now San Francisco-based DZR is looking to introduce some bike footwear that doesn’t look like bike shoes, yet features a platform for pedal cleats. Video after the jump
