Curious Runner

MizunoThe Eudibamus Cursoris is one of the oldest known bipedal creatures, and gives its name to the new Wave EVO Cursoris running shoes form Mizuno. These are designed to provide a more stable platform along with increased cushioning for runners looking to transform to a midfoot strike. The shoe features a ZERO Ramp offset between the heel and forefoot to provide this natural plane that is tailored to a midfoot strike, while the flat-bottomed foretfoot design is coupled with a wider platform to provide greater stability.

Perhaps the Eudibamus Cursoris learned to run on its midfoot. Given that this little runner – the Latin word was “cursor” no less – was quite swift and didn’t have shoes to protect his tiny feet we can only assume this was the case.

Cool Runnings

The ECCO BIOM Lite 1.1 shoe has a casual look to it, but it is actually meant for running, hiking and other activity. The concept here is that it is the shoe you can wear every day but if the mode strikes to start running it can handle it. The BIOM provides a natural foot position that is akin to the barefoot running shoes, which is expected as this shoe has virtually no padding. Thus this shoe encourages a mid-foot landing.

It also is far more stylish looking than the typical running shoe, but still features a thin rubber sole to provide some grip on the trails or pavement. It is the kind of shoe that might make you decide to run home from work.

Get Crazy, Get Quick

Adidas has introduced its new Crazyquick performance footwear line, which the company touts as being the latest innovation designed specifically to help make athletes quicker. This includes a line for basketball, football, running and training; and each gives athletes better controlled flexibility, better traction and optimal foot lockdown. So while it is good that Adidas is thinking of the “Quick” part, there are a whole lot of athletes that probably don’t need any help on the “crazy” part.

Light Jacket

Having a light jacket on a cool day is never a bad idea, but having a jacket that can light up is a great idea for those who run or cycle after dark. The Badger 360° LED Jacket incorporates small LED technology to help illuminate the jacket to ensure that wearer’s can be seen.

The creators – who have launched a Kickstarter campaign to develop the jacket – have embedded it with LED string that is low current, waterproof and flexible. In addition this jacket is made of polyester material that can help wick away moisture, while providing multiple pockets for mobile phone, ID and other can’t leave at home ideas. The hood of the jacket can be tucked away when not in use. And since batteries do run down, there are even reflective stripes along the zipper.

Best of this jacket is even waterproof – and once you remove the battery – it can be submerged in water to be washed. Video after the jump

Running Beacon

Glow-in-the-dark technology where you leave something under a bright light for a few minutes isn’t exactly new. But this technology, which has been popular with toys and children’s accessories, is now making its way to fitness apparel. New Balance is introducing the Beacon Jacket, which utilizes light-absorbing technology to add built-in visibility for runners who like to head out after the sun goes down. The new jackets were recently shown off at last month’s Outdoor Retailer Show, and will soon be lighting the night sky.

Pak a Flask

Water bottle and hydration system maker Hydrapak is a bit like mythical serpent-like chthonic water beast that possessed many heads, but whereas the Lernaean Hydra had many heads Hydrapak just offers many hydration options for athletes.

The latest offerings are its new soft flasks, which include the 12 ounce SF350 and the 16 ounce SF 500. Both of these already won in ISPO’s Performance Accessories category, and expand on the company’s five and eight ounce flasks.

The new flasks, which are designed to deliver liquid, gel or a mix, can be tucked into a cycling jersey pocket or used with the optional hand strap for running. These also feature larger filling port and shut off value to ensure that you don’t end up all wet while taking them on the go.
