Capris pants might not seem likely the manliest of pants, but in this “in-between” cool and warm weather, some rock climbers might want more of their legs covered without constricting movement. The Patagonia Men’s Rock Craft Capris will do the trick, as these are made of lightweight stretch-woven nylon with moisture-shedding DWR (durable water repellent) finish and feature 40-UPF sun protection. They cover more of the leg but still provide plenty of movement.

Fishing is generally easy to pick up, but fly fishing can take some work to master. Patagonia looks to make it a little more accessible with its Patagonia Simple Fly Fishing Kit, which includes tenkara rod, the book “Simple Fly Fishing: Techniques for Tenkara and Rod & Reel,” which offers basic fly fishing techniques, a line, leader, and a box of one-dozen already-tied flies. About the only thing missing is land with a river that runs through it.

Concussion Crisis
From Sport Techie: The NFL Should Adopt This NeuroTracking Technology Immediately to Help Solve the Concussion Crisis
In the NFL, the risk of concussion is far greater than for almost any other sport. While continued improvements to helmet design and stronger regulations against dangerous play may help limit such risk, one serious issue has yet to be resolved—the return to play. ReFleece From Recycled Recycled Materials
We’ve seen much in the way of taking plastic bottles and other materials to create fleece fitness apparel, the question remains what happens when the fleece starts to wear out? Instead of it ending up in a landfill perhaps it go another step. ReFleece is a new company that is taking old Patagonia fleeces and turning the used fabric into protective tablet cases for the iPad and Kindle.
Jennifer Feller and Sam Palmer, who met while working at Patagonia, founded the company, which is made of discarded jackets. The outer shell comes from 100 percent post-consumer and post-industrial scrap fleece, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. Continue reading ReFleece From Recycled Recycled Materials
Patagonia Warms Up to Encapsil Down
Over the past few years we’ve seen a few advancements in down that makes it warmer, better at staying dry and just more effective as a cold weather layer. Patagonia is now introducing Encapsil, a water-repellent down technology. Continue reading Patagonia Warms Up to Encapsil Down
River Crampon so the River Doesn’t Run Over You
When fishing in a fast moving river you don’t want the river to send you down stream. The Patagonia River Carmpons are worn over wading boots and offer traction in fast moving river currents. The aluminum treads are reportedly sharp enough to cut through river slime while still being able to dig into the riverbed. These are removable and fast-drying as well, but best of all ensure that you don’t end up being swept away by a river that runs through it.
Patagonia Offers Transparency with Supply Chain Map
Patagonia is one of those companies that’s ahead of the competitor pack. Many of the clothes and other merchandise it produces is made from recycled and sustainable materials. And now Patagonia is revealing details about where its garments and other merchandise is manufactured. The Footprint Chronicles is a Google Maps listing of the company’s supply chain including textile mills and factories. You can see how many people work at each location, what languages they speak on the job, and what merchandise, such as baselayer or accessories, is produced at each location.
Nike recently put together a sustainability site with a similar goal of providing information for customers and investors.

Hands On: Flash Shopping Site The Clymb
While some of you don’t need an introduction to flash shopping sites, I think it’s required here. Over the past few years flash shopping sites have emerged to bring the “sample sale” experience to online shoppers. They generally focus on an area of luxury goods such as fashion, home goods and home décor. Shoppers generally have to subscribe to be granted entry to the site, and get email notifications listing the sales each day. These sales, like sample sales, are for a limited time of about two or three days, and the site might host three or 12 sales from different designers or manufacturers on any given day.
