Many iPhone users probably wish they could encase their smartphone in armor. And actually case maker Otterbox has its Armor line, and this week unveiled its newest offering for the iPhone 4/4S. This is reportedly the toughest case yet, offering a thermoplastic shell that provides a 3000th of an inch in accuracy to provide a perfect fit. The handset can be locked in via a medical-grade stainless steel latch, providing protection from the elements. This suit of Armor for the phone is waterproof, dustproof, shock proof and crush resistant. The video above will offer some information on why you might want to suit up your iPhone.

Otterbox Ready For Tour of Duty

The crew at OtterBox have long created durable iPhone and other smartphone cases for the demanding users, but now they haven’t created a Military-Style version for the iPhone 4S that looks tough enough to take into battle. It is available in 11 color options including Urban Funk (black/gray digital camouflage silicone with pink polycarbonate), Blizzard (gray/white digital camouflage silicone with black polycarbonate), Ocean (blue digital camouflage silicone with black or blue polycarbonate), Desert (brown/tan digital camouflage silicone with black or white polycarbonate), Urban (black/gray digital camouflage silicone with black or gray polycarbonate), Jungle (green/brown/black old-school camouflage silicone with black or orange polycarbonate), and Forest (green digital camouflage silicone with black polycarbonate) among others.

Beyond the army looking design, this case is the real deal providing an impenetrable screen protector will be accompanied by a second layer, that is a high-impact polycarbonate shell. As for the third layer, this robust silicone skin features a military-style camouflage pattern. The cases, which cost $60, are ready to fall in for deployment.

OtterBox To Show It Is a Tough Mudder

The Tough Mudder is considered one of the most intense events out there. It was designed by the British Special Forces and features rugged terrain, steep inclines, water hazard, military-style obstacle challenge and enough mud for a thousand pies, plus a mud bath for a full platoon of soldiers.

In other words it lives up to its name as a down and dirty and just plain “tough mudder” of an event. It is designed to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), and even includes participation from actual wounded warriors. They prove they’re tough enough for it… which makes us wonder, what about our phones and computers?

As high-tech people we mountain bike, run and trek around the globe with our gear, and have learned the right case can make all the difference. OtterBox, makers of rugged smartphone and tablet protection, are going to the mud and will be at this weekend’s Tough Mudder! We’ll be curious what they think!
