Ready, Aim… Watch Your Fire

FireWhile the warm weather is a good time to hone the shooting skills this year’s dry conditions need to be addressed. The National Shooting Sports Foundation is encouraging target shooters and hunters to do their part to help prevent wildfires, and offers a poster and audio public service announcement containing prevention guidelines for use throughout this fire season.

The poster encourages firearms owners to know the rules, regulations and fire-danger levels before going shooting in fire-prone areas; to minimize the risk of fire by not using ammunition that is steel-jacketed or contains steel-core components, by not using tracer rounds or exploding targets; to remember that a vehicle or ATV’s hot exhaust pipes could ignite a fire; and to properly extinguish campfires, among other fire-prevention measures.

Apps Take Aim

WhereToShootWhile Apple doesn’t do those “there’s an app for that” commercials these days, here is one we wouldn’t expect them to air. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has released its new Where To Shoot mobile app — available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices — that locates shooting ranges near you.

Available for free in the Apple App Store and Google Play, Where To Shoot puts North America’s most comprehensive directory of shooting ranges in the palm of your hand. It also includes video tips for shooters, news and firearm safety information.

Users can reportedly search by current location or zip code and find specifics about each range, including shooting activities offered, accessibility and contact information. The app also makes it easy to get directions to the range.

The app is modeled after NSSF’s popular WhereToShoot.org website and is updated frequently with range information in every U.S. state and Canadian province. New tips for hunters and shooters are also added regularly.

SHOT Show: KineticShift Goes Back to Vegas

Another week another trade show. There is no rest for the weary in January, and after hitting the Consumer Electronics Show and the Detroit Auto Show, we’re back to “Sin City” to check out the latest offerings and most innovative products that will be available this year for hunters, sport shooters and firearms enthusiasts

This is the largest and most comprehensive trade show for all professionals involved with the shooting sports and hunting industries. Last year’s show in Orlando saw nearly 60,000 in total attendance with more than 1,600 exhibitors and nearly 700,000 square feet of exhibit space – and this year the National Shooting Sports Foundation expects an even bigger show with nearly 2,000 members of the media in attendance.
