We’ve seen minimal shoes but then there is the Merrell Vapor Glove Shoe, which its makers call “the most minimal show Merrell has ever made.” It is reportedly half the weight of weight of a regular running shoe at just 6 ounces on each foot. It thus gives a true “barefoot” feel while still providing protection from sharp rocks and other debris you might encounter. In other words this could be for the runner who wants to go barefoot but isn’t quite there.

Cool Runnings
The ECCO BIOM Lite 1.1 shoe has a casual look to it, but it is actually meant for running, hiking and other activity. The concept here is that it is the shoe you can wear every day but if the mode strikes to start running it can handle it. The BIOM provides a natural foot position that is akin to the barefoot running shoes, which is expected as this shoe has virtually no padding. Thus this shoe encourages a mid-foot landing.
It also is far more stylish looking than the typical running shoe, but still features a thin rubber sole to provide some grip on the trails or pavement. It is the kind of shoe that might make you decide to run home from work.
Minimal Goes Casual
Who says the concept of a minimal shoe should be confined to running? Much like compression clothing, minimal footwear now represents relaxation and recovery as much as it does competition.
With a scant 4mm drop the New Balance NewSky certainly qualifies as a minimalist shoe, whether it’s worn about the house or as an everyday shoe. At four to five oz. you may decide to throw away your favorite house slippers, and who could blame you? They have a decidedly fun and yet urban look. Video after the jump
