Domino Flip
The Spyderco Domino is the latest in the company’s line of flipper knives. Designed by Eric Glesser, this performance-driven knife offers a minimalist profile with refined ergonomics. Its trademarked Round Hole is positioned to offer optimal leverage and is supported by special ball-bearing washers in the pivot that reduce friction. This provides a smooth, reliable opening; and in the open position the flipper practically disappears into the grip-friendly contours of the handle.
Made of precision machined CTS- XHP stainless steel the Domino’s blade features a full-flat grind for superior edge geometry and a distal taper with an acute point. It is mated to a handle that consists of a solid titanium scale on one side and a titanium liner and carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scale on the other, where the solid titanium scale forms the foundation of the Domino’s sturdy Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L). This is knife that is worth flipping for.
Cyber Army Knife
The Victorinox CyberTool Lite Swiss Army Knife takes the versatile blade into the 21st century and beyond. It expands on the original Cyber Tool, and offers knives, hex, Torx and Philips bits, wire cutters and pliers and now adds an 8x magnifying glass and LED light.
Designed for the IT pros and the like we think this could still be a good all around pocket knife for the tech savvy adventurer as well.
M.A.K. the Knife
There are plenty of survival tools out there, and the M.A.K.-1 Knife is one to add to the list of must-have items. It was designed by Canadian firefighter James McGowan, and while this knife has been on sale for years we couldn’t help but report on it.
This Multiple Access Knife (M.A.K.) is designed as rescue and rapid entry knife, and is made of rugged 3Cr13 stainless steel. It features a blunt chisel pry-bar tip for opening doors and windows, as well as a razor-sharp knife edge that can do serious cutting. It offers a textured and grooved G10 scales that provides a grip for bare and gloved hands. This one is truly on the cutting edge in more ways than one.
Made in America: Camo Folder
The Ontario Knife Company’s XM-1 has features the company’s heavy-duty construction blended with the most advanced engineering, making it a popular knife. Now for this summer it is available in a new Desert Camo pattern. The knife is available with either a plain or partially serrated blade edge and features cryo-quenched dual titanium liner locks for maximum safety.
Designed to be as tough as the soldiers who use it, with tougher-than-nails N690Co stainless steel construction, it is also engineered to be a lightweight, precision balanced alternative to spring-loaded blades and locks. It will open smoothly and lock in place with each use, and now offers a lower profile with its camo finish.
Hunt Down
Just because the knife has the moniker “Hunter Pro” doesn’t mean you have to actually be a hunter, or a pro. This tactical knife might still be the one to have when you’re out camping or hiking. It is made by Victorinox, the folks behind the Swiss Army Knives, and this folding blade design is optimized for one-hand access while the heavy gauge stainless steel blade locks securely in place.
It offers an ergonomic grip that will have you cutting like a pro.
Rat Patrol
Ontario Knife Company has looked to blend fashion and functionality with its new Pink RAT II folding knife, and lets the company get in touch with its feminine side. While it might be pretty in pink this everyday carry (EDC) knife features an AUS-8 blade steel to offer a combination of toughness, edge sharpness and corrosion resistance. The razor-sharp blade measures three inches and comes in satin finish or fierce black.
The knife features a four-position clip to ensure it can be stored and easily retrieved, whether from a purse, front pocket or MOLLE gear.
The pink handle isn’t just for show, as the high visibility coloring makes it easier to spot in low light conditions, emergency situations or just finding in a pack. The handle further offers good balance along with an ergonomic design for a woman’s hand!
Cold Steel in a Cool Knife
The Kershaw Cryo Pocket Knife may sound like it is just “cold steel” – the name Cryo does sound chilly – but this is actuallyone cool pocket knife. Designed by tactical knife maker Rick Hinderer, the Cryo is made of stainless steel and coated with titanium carbo-nitride, which provides a durable and long lasting blade.
It features the Kershaw SpeedSafe System that makes this lightweight knife easy to open with one hand and the lockbar stabilization ensures that it stays locked in position when in use. Just 2.75-inch in length the blade is compact but still a useful size to have while hiking or camping.
Fast Folder
As we often – probably too often – say when hiking, camping, hunting or just spending time outdoors it pays to have a good knife. But we’ll add having the right knife helps a lot too. The new Camillus CUDA Bolt folding knife is one we wouldn’t consider good, but only because it is likely so much better than merely being good. It features a 3 3/4 –inch AUS-8 steel blade that is super hardened with non-stick carbonitride titanium, and has a lightweight aircraft aluminum alloy body with black G-10 bolster. In other words we don’t see this knife, which also includes quick-release for easy one hand opening, as being something that will rust away.
Survival Knife That Could Survive Anything
A good knife is one tool you don’t want to be without when camping, hiking or hunting. The DPx Gear HEST 2.0 Survival Knife isn’t a good knife, it is probably the one knife you’d serious want when things get serious. It features a 3.15-inch Sleipnersteel blade with a resilient cutting edge, a strong re-angled pry notch, wire strippers and hex driver. It available either with a PVD coating for the stealthy look, or as a naked stone-washed blade and wood handle for that woodsman look. Either configuration offers a hollow handle for storing extra survival materials.
Made in America: Crafty Blade
Having a good knife while out in the wilds is never a bad idea, and even if you’re not an outdoorsman you probably would appreciate the fine crafted American made Bush Crafter ($99.99) from Camillus Knives. Made of 1095 high-carbon steel, this knife offers a razor-sharp edge that will remain sharp even after a whole lot of abuse, while the light drop tip fat belly blade is designed to be highly-functional for campers and hunters along.
It features a tough-as-nails canvas Micarta handle that is 4.5 inches long and which provides an serious grip for the user, while the steel lanyard slot will work with both traditional leather/nylon cords or a nylon strap used by climbers. This one even features a hand-made leather sheath.
Knife Light
Sometimes a little light can go a long way, such as not cutting yourself when using a knife in the dark. For those times when you’re hiking, camping or just need to cut something and don’t have access to a light – and don’t want to hold a flashlight in your mouth – the SOG Blade Light, a folding knife, will come in handy.
It employs six LED lights molded into the GRN handle, which are powered by two AAA batteries, and can provide 34-37 lumens. It can also stand up to nature as it is IPX-7 rated for full immersion in water. The Blade Light will be available next month for $85, which is far less than the cost of stitches on the hand!
