Holiday Gift Guide: One Bad Looking Jacket

Badlands-EXOBadlands have released its new EXO rain series, which includes the Badlands EXO Jacket. Designed for those who will head out to hunt in all conditions, according to the company this jacket is designed repel water better than a seasoned sea otter’s pelt. It also contains 4-X scent containment technology thanks to a Dupont Repel DWR-treated polyester layer. This stops the water from coming in and the wearer’s scent from going out.

Not a bad idea.

Brake Light Jacket

EclaireurWe’ve seen a real trend this year in cycling clothing that integrates lights, and the latest is the Eclaireur jacket from Esthete, which features integrated LEDs that can shine the way and even allow the rider to be seen. It further offers black reflective stripes and a removable yellow armstrap.

The jacket is designed to be stylish and low key when wearing around town, but can light it up to ensure a safe ride home after the sun goes down. Continue reading Brake Light Jacket

Transformable Jacket

VamooseLet’s face taking a jacket in case you get chilly can be a pain. Sure it is nice to have it when you need it, but what if it actually stays warm. Then you’re stuck with a jacket you need to carry around. The Vamoose solves the problem by transforming from a backpack to a jacket, and it includes plenty of pockets so that stuff you were carrying won’t have to be left behind.

Vamoose also makes a poncho that can transform to tarp or sunshade for quick shelter! Video after the jump

Electra-fied!

ELECTRA-JACKET-2The Electra 2 cycling jacket from Louis Garneau will help keep the chill out on those cool days, and if it heats up just a bit the sleeves are detachable and it can quickly convert to a vest. The back is even vented to prevent cyclists from overheating. It features a front two way zipper, as well as chest and back pockets that zip closed to carry that important stuff. There is even a mini-light tab that helps a rider be seen at night.

The Electra 2 is made of Diamond Air fabric that is light and breathable but still can act as a windbreaker, while the Mesh Airdry will wick moisture away. It is a cool jacket for those cool days.

Nike Looks to Adapt

Nike-HyperadaptAdapt or die. For Nike Golf it is apparently never say die, instead the company looks to not only adapt but to Hyperadapt with its new golf jacket that promises to give athletes added comfort, mobility and of course protection from the elements. It featured no-sew technology throughout the inner layer, which helps minimized chaffing, while a four-way stretch system maximizes mobility and eliminates any restrictions in the swing.

The Hyperadapt Storm-FIT jacket recently withstood wind gusting at 35 mph along with heavy rains during the Irish Open, so it should more than work out for most golfers heading for nine holes.

Upright (Not Uptight) Rider

Upright-CyclistWe’ve seen a movement towards cycling attire that isn’t so aimed at the hardcore rider – however some of it is for the truly “uptight cyclist.” Phil Siegert’s line of cycling attire isn’t so uptight, but it is for the Upright Cyclist – which is now the name of his business.

His line of clothing is for those who don’t want to change what they are wearing to go for a ride, so whether it is for commute to work, a leisurely weekend trip around town or a journey to the store, Upright Cyclist can have you covered. The company, which just launched last month, introduced five pieces that include shorts, pants and three jackets and each is meant to handle riding around town, while still looking good off the bike.

Get Focused

FocusYou should be focused on the journey, and the Westcomb Focus LT Hoody will let you have one less worry about the weather. This minimal constructed shell is anything but minimal in how it can help keep the wind and the elements at bay. It features eVent membrane, taped seams and a helmet compatible hood. It also features a single Napoleon pocket for a music player or phone. For the wet spring weather this might be a way to stay in the shell and stay a little drier.

Thin and Light

S-LABWhen we think of the concept of thin and light we tend to think of a laptop computer – as that is a category in the space. But the Salomon S-LAB Light Jacket is also thin and light, weights just 2.5 ounces and folded can fit in most wearer’s pants’ pocket. Now this one has no hood, no pockets (so you can’t shove any jacket in the pocket) and it isn’t meant to be a rain jacket. It will block the wind, which can come in very handy in these cool spring days. It also has that retro Speed Racer look to it, which we find kind of cool too.

Encapsilating Jacket

While Patagonia’s new DriDown jacket may not be encapsulating, it is Encapsil’ating. The Encapsil Down Bedlay Parka features an incredible 1,000-fill insulation rating, but more impressively is water resistant, stronger and 25 percent loftier than other down. The jacket further features the industry’s first 100 percent independently baffled, differentially cut parka design to further eliminate cold spots.

This jacket can stand up to the cold with a polyurethane dry coated 100 percent shell with helmet-compatible hood and insulated hand warmer pockets. There is even a unique pull-system that lets wears adjust the waist draw cord from inside or out of the jacket. This is one jacket that will let you get down – and stay truly encapsil-ated in.

Light Jacket

Having a light jacket on a cool day is never a bad idea, but having a jacket that can light up is a great idea for those who run or cycle after dark. The Badger 360° LED Jacket incorporates small LED technology to help illuminate the jacket to ensure that wearer’s can be seen.

The creators – who have launched a Kickstarter campaign to develop the jacket – have embedded it with LED string that is low current, waterproof and flexible. In addition this jacket is made of polyester material that can help wick away moisture, while providing multiple pockets for mobile phone, ID and other can’t leave at home ideas. The hood of the jacket can be tucked away when not in use. And since batteries do run down, there are even reflective stripes along the zipper.

Best of this jacket is even waterproof – and once you remove the battery – it can be submerged in water to be washed. Video after the jump

Rain Down Because… Showers Pass

Who cares if the gray skies clear up when you have the Showers Pass’ Refuge jacket on? Designed for outdoor use, including bike commuting or hiking, this jacket utilizes Elite three-layer performance fabric to offer protection in the rain. It is waterproof yet breathable, and is fully seam-taped but also includes extra-long core vents, reinforced shoulders for use with backpacks or other gear with big and bulky shoulder straps. There are front handwarmer pockets and even a chest pocket with audio port.

It also features water-resistant Aquaguard Vision zippers, 360-degree 3M Scotchlite reflective trim and two light loops. There is a removable helmet that can stow in the jacket pocket and yet is large enough to cover a helmet. This could be the jacket for those times when it is raining or just looking like it could rain.
