AIRbutz Let Air, Ambient Noise In

Music is essential for workouts, and earbuds are an easy option to plug into a smartphone or MP3 player. Yet those earbuds can block out ambient noise that you need to hear, such as oncoming traffic. AIRbudz is a replacement for the earpiece that comes with your earbud headphones. Air channels allow ambient noise to enter your ears, while not distorting music. Clever Ski Pole

Winter is finally over – in fact it never arrived for much of the country – but that doesn’t mean it isn’t too early to think about next year. Actually it is Neva too early, as in Anthony Griesel’s Neva microprocessor-equipped ski poles that will bring “smart” technology to skiing and back wood snowshoeing and hiking.

Each pole features a waterproof grip with a mini-computer that can be linked via Bluetooth to an app on a user’s iPhone or Android device, and this could allow for flashes for incoming calls and even the ability to take calls without taking off the gloves. Other possibilities include text messages, and basic (but very useful data) such as temperature and elevation, as well as time. GPS could of course be a future possibility. Video after the jump

iPhone Scuba Case For Underwater Use

While the TAT7 iPhone Scuba Case won’t actually let you use the handset as a phone underwater, it will let you snap away with the smartphone’s digital camera.

It is made of clear polycarbonate and features a hinged opening, while double gaskets allow the iPhone to go deep to 100 feet (or about 30 meters). It provides three buttons on the back to allow users to access the basics, including touchscreen photo and video controls.

For those who want to snap a few “deep sea” or just “in the pool” shots, this should be an excellent solution for making the iPhone your own under water camera.

The Name is Bondi

Innovative need not be high-tech, but the right innovation can work well with our high-tech devices. And the Bondi is just such a piece of innovation; this silicone holder for the iPhone (which would probably work with other smartphones as well) is like a little protector that will hung onto the handset for dear life.

Bondi can be stretched or contorted into unique positions and could be a way to hold the phone on a bicycle – although there are probably better handset mounts for that purpose. But where Bondi really could come in handy is for those who hit the gym or regularly workout on a fitness machine. This $20 device could be a great way to securely stash the phone so it isn’t dropped or worse forgotten. Handy for the handset indeed!

Something to GAIN

There is the old saying about “no pain, no gain,” but maybe GAIN Fitness can make the gain a little less painful and a little gainful. The company introduced its GAIN 3.0 app for the iPhone last week, and it offers a GAIN Plan for users, a custom 4-week workout plan, as well as a expansion pack store for multiple training styles. National Parks iPhone App Makes Parks Experience More Interactive

For years enthusiasts of the National Parks have brought their park passport book to all the monuments and parks around the nation. My sister was very into her passport for a while and collected stamps at many parks on a drive across the country. Now an iPhone app can work in tandem with your passport book to add even more fun to the preserved outdoors.

The app features information from the passport book. You can also use the app to view park maps, websites and other information on each National Park. When you’re at the park you can use the camera to record photos and video to be stored with the park on your app.

Military Grade Case Coming for iPhone

Does the military use smartphones? Actually there is more and more crossover and likely some military personnel as well as those who work alongside the military might use an iPhone. So the good news is that iCA have introduced the iCA Military Edition, a camera case that turns the handset into a camera lookalike.

As has been noted, it even makes the iPhone look like the old Leica range finders that military photographers used to carry. It features a viewfinder, top mounted shutter button, and offers the ability to attach a macro or fisheye lenses. Of course this case, which is available for pre-order for $70.00, promises to be durable enough for the military, but available to civilians. Additional images after the jump

QT2 Systems Triathlon Calculator Predicts Finish Time in App

QT2 Systems has released an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that works as a calculator to project an individual’s triathlon race performance. In turn, the app helps create personalized training ranges.

Race outcomes are based on seven key inputs from training. The tool then estimates race distance and course types. The app also gives you race pacing and training zone recommendations to get you to reach your goals.

“Triathletes put a great deal of time and focus into their race preparations, and should always be well aware of where they stand, with regard to their racing goals,” said Jesse Kropelnicki, founder and developer of QT2 Systems.

The app was developed in cooperation with Triessential.com to help convert proprietary algorithms developed over 10 years of coaching. The formulas were then worked into an iPhone app.

The QT2 Calculator is available on iTunes for the iPhoen and iPod Touch for $1.99.
