Jogging has been around since the 1960s or so. Before that it was just called “roadwork.” But today it is just one of many types of running that people engage in around the world, and now thanks to apps and mobile handsets you can go for a Yog instead.
The concept of this new mobile social network app is that it allows users to run with or even against another person in real time, even if they are on the other side of the country or world. The Yog network and app connects you with other runners, so you can join them or race them. Joggers with the app can set up the date, time and distance and then invite others to take part. It can work via iPhone contacts or Facebook friends, but users can also join the running group. Video after the jump
Those sticky screen protectors often get in the way. But if you take your phone along on strenuous workouts, you know that screen is subject to a few scratches. Liquid-Armor from Dynaflo is a spray on liquid that coats the screen so any scratches that happen scratch the coating, not the screen.
There are a few videos on YouTube that test Liquid Armor’s abilities. One review from LinusTechTips drags a control and a coated BlackBerry from a motorcycle to compare scratches. This is when the reviewer discovered that Liquid Armor coats the screen.
To apply Liquid Armor you need to clean your screen with an included cloth, then rub the spray into the screen with the same cloth. We hope it’s more foolproof than bubbly screen protecting stickers.
At the SIA Snowsports Show in January we got to see an early model of the Sanpei Optics audio-adaptable glasses. It’s a combo pair of sunglasses and earbud headphones that work together to discretely fit into the ears. Most cyclists ride with their cell phone, usually stashed in the jersey pocket if it is not being used on the handlebar as a cycling computer. One ride is all it usually takes to realize that sweat builds up on the phone and regardless of the chance of rain, the following ride usually sees the phone placed in a zipper closure plastic bag before being put in a jersey pocket.
This is exactly the scenario that played out when I first purchased my iPhone. Since the replacement cost of that phone can exceed $600, every following ride saw the iPhone being protected by a Ziplock bag. Over time the zipper usually stops properly sealing and the bag breaks apart. While at Interbike this year, the crew from the 2013 Amgen Tour of California was giving away JerseyBins, the vinyl zipper pouch used to protect cell phones, cash, or anything else that may need to be protected while out for a ride. This little pouch seemed like the perfect solution.
The JerseyBin is a heavyweight zipper closure pouch that is available in four different sizes. The 10-gauge vinyl is cold crack tolerant to below -10 degrees Fahrenheit, yet it allows the use of a touch screen without removing your phone from the pouch – that can be difficult to do through a normal Ziplock bag. Last week at the Interbike trade show Wahoo Fitness offered a peak at its new RFLKT Bike Computer, which allows riders to keep their expensive iPhones tucked in a pocket or tool bag but still be able to get crucial information sent to a receiver on the handlebars.
The small gizmo weighs just two ounces and should be able to run on a single coin cell battery for up to a year. Data is transmitted from the handset to the RFLKT device via Bluetooh 4.0 and it is compatible with a variety of iPhone apps. Press release after the jump
Having some sort of light is a good idea when riding a bike at night. But instead of buying yet one more gizmo, the team at Monocle have created an abrasion-resistant synthetic webbing that holds and iPhone and uses the handsets flash to blink through a red lens – thus transforming the handset into a bike light.
Monocle’s designers are now looking to raise funds to make this ass-tastic light a reality with a Kickstarter campaign. Video after the jump

Wahoo Fitness has put a new spin on cycle training with its KICKR Bike Trainer, which can be controlled via an iPhone app. This looks a bit like the Lemond Revolution Trainer, which works much like a traditional cycle trainer but instead of spinning on a drum has users ditch the rear wheel completely by offering a cassette and gears. Resistance is controlled via the app, which also lets riders know the speed and watts produced. It reportedly can simulate different conditions such as riding uphill, where more effort is required.
