Your phone is as essential an accessory for running as water, keys and a pair of sunglasses. Yet most smartphones today are a little too big and clunky to fit in the pocket of a pair of running shorts – if there’s even a pocket. The SportShell Convertible iPhone 4 and 4S Case from Marware is a multi-format case that clips into an armband to make it easy to bring the iPhone along on your run. Otterbox Boxes iPhone
httpv://youtu.be/5p6Aw5wceuA
Many iPhone users probably wish they could encase their smartphone in armor. And actually case maker Otterbox has its Armor line, and this week unveiled its newest offering for the iPhone 4/4S. This is reportedly the toughest case yet, offering a thermoplastic shell that provides a 3000th of an inch in accuracy to provide a perfect fit. The handset can be locked in via a medical-grade stainless steel latch, providing protection from the elements. This suit of Armor for the phone is waterproof, dustproof, shock proof and crush resistant. The video above will offer some information on why you might want to suit up your iPhone.
Snow Lizard Unveils Rugged, Solar-Powered iPhone 4 Case, Wants You to Back It Via Kickstarter
Accessories-maker Snow Lizard Products has introduced what could be the perfect rugged case for the iPhone 4 and 4S: the AQUA TEK S. The tank-like case not only gives your iPhone waterproof protection, but a built-in batter and solar charger gives your iPhone an extra boost of power (with these devices getting more and more power hungry, that’s welcome, especially if you’re outdoors without access to a power outlet).
The case is waterproof up to 20 feet and can withstand drops. A top lid opens up to easily let you remove or insert an iPhone, and all the iPhone external buttons are accessible via corresponding external buttons on the case.
However, there’s a catch: it’s not for sale, yet. It looks like Snow Lizard is looking for some financial backing for this product and is utilizing Kickstarter. Snow Lizard plans to sell it at retail for $130, but if you pledge $25, $175, $1,000, or $5,000, Snow Lizard is including some extras for those who get in early, like ski passes to Utah resorts.
Check out the video and more info on the AQUA TEK S Kickstarter page.
CTIA Honors Rugged Case With Hot for the Holidays Award
The idea of “life proofing” portable electronics is a good one, especially with mobile smartphones. These things get dropped, get spilled on and get put through conditions that frankly they weren’t designed for. After dropping an iPhone many users probably have a moment of fear and do a quick “proof of life” test to see if it still works. Instead of worrying whether that fall or spill “killed” the handset, LifeProof it instead.

Speck Gets Tough on the iPhone
Speaking as someone who has caused a quick demise of an MP3 player or two on the treadmill (the treadmill!), I think I can say that not all cases are built to withstand that type of torture. They’re made to withstand the torment of being tossed into a bag, purse or pocket. But a drop of a few feet, and at the velocity of someone running? Good bye. That said, Speck just came out with a line of Toughskin and Toughshell cases for the iPhone 4.
The ToughSkin for iPhone 4 ($39.95) is a three-layered system with an inner plastic shell that can be used all on its own, an outer rubber and rugged shell and an detachable holster with a rotating belt clip. The inner, plastic hard shell can stand on its own as a case when you’re not as active. However the rubberized outer case adds extra cushioning for your phone that will protect it if your phone launches from your hands while running or partaking in other activities. The holster has a rotating belt that you clip the phone into facing either direction. You can face your iPhone 4 inward to protect the screen from any damage, or clip it facing out so you can watch video or look at images. Continue reading Speck Gets Tough on the iPhone
From Skate Deck to iPhone Case
There comes a time for every skateboarder to realize that the old deck just can’t be used any longer. Whether it is cracks in the wood or just other structural issues, skateboard decks just can’t last forever. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t live on afterward.
Portland, Oregon based MapleXo has long been turning trashed decks into thrasher jewelry and now the company is looking to turn old skate decks into iPhone 4 cases. However, the catch is that the company is releasing just 50 limited edition cases so you better skate over to the website quickly to sign up for one.
