Over the years we’ve heard many our cycling friends comment that they’d love to attend Interbike, which of course is a trade show and not generally open to the public. However, this September there might be a way for the public to partake in some of what Interbike has to offer.
Participants in this year’s RTC Viva Bike Vegas Gran Fondo, held in Las Vegas the day after Interbike closes, will be allowed in to the show for part of its final day.
“We view the Viva Bike Vegas event as the ultimate culmination of a week-long celebration of cycling,” said Pat Hus, Interbike’s managing director. “The RTC has done such a great job with this event and it has been growing nicely year after year for the last six years. The participation numbers are significant and now with the event taking place on the Saturday after the show, it just makes sense to invite this group to Interbike. The Gran Fondo customer is a passionate cycling enthusiast and exactly who we want in the halls.”
The largest bicycle trade show in North America is apparently up for sale. Nielsen Expositions, the company which produces Interbike and other trade events, is looking for a buyer. Other shows include ASD, the Hospitality Design Expo (HD Expo), the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), as well as the Outdoor Retailer Summer and Winter Markets. What this means for the future of the show isn’t clear. We’ll be sure to follow this story as it develops.
While LeMond Fitness didn’t have a good year in 2012, and the company basically folded shop just before Interbike, we heard that LeMond is back with Lemond Inc. This week Greg LeMond also posted a survey on his site inquiring whether or not there would be interest in the LeMond road bike brand.
Bob Dylan went electric so why not Interbike? The organizers of the largest bicycle trade show in North America announced this month that it will host electric bike manufacturers and journalists at an event that will showcase pedal-assist bikes.
This week Interbike, the largest bicycle industry trade show in North America, announced that for 2013 the show will allow select consumers to attend the event. According to the organizers the new program’s primary intent is to showcase the industry to some of its most loyal enthusiast customers.
It is hard to believe that Interbike was a week ago. It came and went so fast, but it remains among our most favorite shows of the year. We went through the camera one more time and have posted our final photos from the show floor, including this one above of our own Brian O’Connor and pro cyclist Tom Danielson. 
For years 
Giro has built a not so small empire with its line of helmets and shoes, and at Interbike last week the company unveiled the Empire, a new custom shoe developed specifically for Taylor Phinney to use in the 2012 Giro d’Italia and Olympic Games. 
We know what you’re thinking: “It’s 2012 can there really be innovation in mountain bike tires? Seriously!” The answer is yes, there is always innovation, always some improvement. That’s par for the course at Eurobike or Interbike.
Timex – the company know to take a licking and keep on ticking – was back at Interbike last week with its Cycle Trainer 2.0 GPS Bike Computer, which includes five screens of real-time cycling data provided by GPS. It can track speed, distance and grade all in real time, while also providing barometric altimeter readings and temperature. 
Japanese based Arte Sales rolled out its new Tretta 2WD bike at last week’s Interbike. The concept has taken five years to develop and was finally introduced last year, but the company hopes to gain traction in the worldwide cycling market.
Last week at the Interbike trade show Wahoo Fitness offered a peak at its new RFLKT Bike Computer, which allows riders to keep their expensive iPhones tucked in a pocket or tool bag but still be able to get crucial information sent to a receiver on the handlebars.
