Sony is on a roll. Last week the company introduced a new digital binocular that can record still and video – so yeah it sounded a lot like a stereoscopic camera. But the company also unveiled the new sport-ready Handycam HDR-GW66VE.
It is waterproof to 10 meters, plus resists dust, dirt, is freezeproof and shockproof. It can record full HD video in high-quality AVCHD format, as well as web-friendly MP4. It can also shoot 20megapixel stills. For those who hear adventure calling this is one handy camera to have.

While there is no shortage of wearable action cameras the folks at Zeal Optics have another idea – namely putting the action camera in the goggles rather than on the helmet. The company introduced goggle-cameras last season and for the 2012-13 ski season – which we hear could more than make up for the bust that was last year – wearers can record in full HD.
JVC and Sony have joined GoPro and the other action cameras and now so has Polaroid with a new line of sports video cameras that was introduced at the recent Photokina show in Germany. The Polaroid XS sports camera line features three models that include waterproof technology, low-light capabilities and are up to just about any outdoor adventure.
Looking to get into the action of point-of-view video, Sony introduced its Action Cam HDR-AS10 HD video camera with Wi-Fi capability. The compact camera mounts with an adhesive to flat and curved surfaces. This means you can mount it to a helmet, handlebar, ski, snowboard, surfboard, skateboard or other object to capture all the action. 
What camera company isn’t releasing a rugged digital camera? This week Canon announced its upcoming PowerShot D20, which is much more than just an update of the D10 – in fact in a way it is more because it is less. While the D10 was a large and bulky point and shoot, the D20 is a sleeker model, but still features a robust and sporty design.
Much has been made about the fact that smartphones pretty much give everyone a camera for everywhere they go. And with many smartphones including built-in HD video cameras does anyone need a pocket camcorder these days? Well, apparently Philips thinks so, and its new ESee pocket video camera could fill the void left by the now-discontinued Cisco Systems Flip camcorder.
There is another competitor in the rugged, wearable HD video camera market as the Swann FreeStyle HD has arrived. This camera, which features detachable LCD viewer and 3X digital zoom, can be enclosed in a sturdy case (included) that is waterproof to 65-feet. The Swann FreeStyle HD lives up the name and can capture 1080p HD video (1920×1080) at 30fps with stereo audio. In still camera mode it can shoot 8MP in both single-shot and rapid fire.
