German glove maker ION has introduced its new bike gloves for spring. These include the Path, Ledge and Wisp and each model features “digital tips” that can work with touchscreen-enabled devices. ION has placed the tips on the actual tips of the fingers to make use with touchscreens a little easier.
The Path and Wisp are designed for off-road riding and for men and women respectively, while the Ledge model is for endure and gravity-oriented riders. All three models feature pre-curved fingers while the inner palm and inside panels of the gloves are made of “holy_cow” synthetic leather.
Winter is in full swing, but Shower Pass is already thinking of next year with gloves that might have you covered. It recently introduced its line of cycling gloves, which include four different versions including three windproof outer gloves and one liner. The Softshell and Hardshell gloves are all fully waterproof and feature Outdry material, which reportedly fuses a waterproof membrane with an outer layer so moisture isn’t trapped instead; while the Wind Glove and Artex liner are designed to stop wind and water alike.
The outer gloves feature reflective treatment and are designed to accommodate the hand placement for bicycle riding, whilst the liner is designed for use on its own or with any of the other three. So next fall if these gloves fit… Glove specs after the jump
While it is doubtful that Robin Hood – if such a character really existed – would have worn green tights, he might still have appreciated the Sherwood Camouflage cycling gloves from Giro. According to the company:

Zanier has long made gloves that include electronics to keep the wearer’s hands warm, and now for 2013 the company is bringing out its latest designs that utilize the Heat Technology, which is powered by Lithium Ion batteries and weigh in at just 60 grams.
The Aviator.GTX line of gloves feature three heat settings and can provide up to 10 hours of warmth to the digits. This gauntlet style glove is made of goat leather with four-way stretch fabric and Goretex. It also features touch screen lether on the pointer finger and thumb so you can punch in the digits on a smartphone without exposing your digits to the cold.

While out this holiday season you may notice that it is hard to use that touchscreen phone with gloves, but the Leather Touchscreen Gloves, which are made of Ethiopian lambskin and have been treated for wind and water resistance, feature nanotechnology that has been integrated into the leather. The result is that you can keep the digits warm and still operate a touchscreen device. Plus, you can keep some style as well.
One downside to touchscreen technology is that it isn’t exactly easy to use with gloves – but then again most handsets are tough to use with gloves. So maybe those with touchscreens have an advantage thanks to winter products such as the Outdoor Research Stormsensor Gloves, which utilize TouchTec water-resistant leather on the fingers and palm. This allows the digits on your hand to active the digits or other items on the touchscreen. This way your hands can stay warm and you can still text and type away. Of course it does mean more people will be using handsets on the slopes, but that’s simply called progress.
For those who didn’t grow up in the 1970s and (fortunately) missed the recent movie reboot of Land of the Lost, the pseudo-villains were the Sleestaks, a lizard race that communicated through hissing and had just two fingers and a thumb.
While Answer’s Sleestak cycling gloves won’t require the wearer to hiss to talk, it should keep the hands warm as these are designed to handle temperatures to 20º F. We imagine even a cold-blooded creature like a Sleestak would find that reassuring. Just don’t get lost out there in the snow.

Answering nature’s call when in the woods is one thing, but a more urgent need can be answering the phone call before it goes to voicemail. Many riders might want to leave the phone behind during their ride, but if you absolutely can’t miss a call and like to wear full-finger gloves to protect the digits there is the added problem that today’s touchscreen smartphones don’t respond well to said gloves.

That annoying expression “talk to the hand” might get new life thanks to Swany’s g.cell ski gloves, which feature built-in Bluetooth technology that transforms the hand warming ski gloves into a mobile phone speaker and microphone. Basically this allows a phone to stay in one’s pocket, while the gloves can be used to make calls, including voice activated commands. The speaker and microphone are embedded in the thumb of the right glove, which also features the controls.
The gloves were shown last month at the SIA Snow Show but won’t be available in the United States until fall. Until then users might have to actually speak to the phone and not to the hand. Video after the jump
