SRAM Offers Garmin Mount

Soon bike shops could have a whole department dedicated to mounts for Garmin cycling computers, as SRAM now offers mounts that look quite similar to the Quarq version with its own SRAM Quickview. What sets this one apart is actually that there are multiple versions that can work with the Garmin 200, 500 and 800.

It is made of hybrid composite material that is meant to cut down vibration to the head unit while it is still firmly on the bar. It weighs just 20g and mounts with a single T25 Torx bolt and will available in time for the holidays.

3D Printed Garmin Cycle Mount

Yesterday we noted that Garmin has released its own cycle mount for its Edge line of bicycle computers. But if you don’t care for the Garmin official mount, or can’t find it – or the Bar Fly, K-Edge, 3T or Quarg mounts – you could also look to RaceWare Direct and have your own colorful mount printed! That’s right, RaceWare is using the latest in 3D printer technology to run off the mounts and in a selection of colors.

The mounts are nylon based and the benefit of these custom 3D printed mounts it that these can be made to the exact diameter of your handbars!

Garmin Mounts Up

It had to happen. Several companies have introduced cycle computer mounts for Garmin computers, including the Bar Fly that we noted last week, as well as the K-Edge, Quarq and 3T. Now Garmin has seen that it is likely just supporting the aftermarket when they could be jumping on that band wagon.

This week the company introduced a new composite material mount that features a hinged mount for easy installation when the insertion point for mounting the computer can be rotated. Thus the Garmin Out Front Mount ($39.99) can be used with road, mountain and even time trial bikes, and it works with all Edge devices. Mount up!

Bar Fly Raises Bar With TT Mount for Cycle Computers

Handlebar mounts for cycling computers are fairly common and we’ve seen a few that have been truly innovative in how it places the computer right where it can be seen without requiring the rider to take their eyes off the road for an extended time.

Several makers have road and mountain bikers covered but now the Bar Fly TT mount from Above Category will let those who are likely really moving on a time trail or triathlon bike get all the digital details as well. Instead of placing the cycle computer near the stem, where it could be hard to see when it the tucked position, the Bar Fly TT is designed to mount on the aerobar extensions, putting it right where it truly needs to be. Garmin Run Time

There are sports watches that do everything – and more. But for those who just pound the pavement while running Garmin has you covered with the GPS-enabled Forerunner 10. It is designed to provide runners with the most essential data, including how far you ran and how fast you ran it, but it can also keep track of personal bests and records so you can know if you’re improving. Other features include a virtual pacer to allow you to compare current running speed to that of the optimum speed to meet a particular goal.

The watch doesn’t include a lot of more advanced functionality, but the $129 price point reflects this fact. It is designed – as Garmin notes – “for runners who want to simply lace up their shoes, push one button and just run.”

Garmin’s fēnix Outdoor Watch Goes Off Trail

GPS is great, but when you’re on a road you typically still have an idea of your location. For trails and other outdoors activities, if the GPS stops marking when you step off the trail, it’s useless. Garmin just released its fēnix Outdoor Watch, which still tracks and directs adventurers, even when they’re off the beaten path. Continue reading Garmin’s fēnix Outdoor Watch Goes Off Trail

Garmin Swim Watch Makes a Splash

Most heart rate monitors are waterproof, and therefore you can track your heart rate while doing laps, but it’s difficult to track what you do in the pool. The new Swim training watch from Garmin is designed specifically for swimmers, and provides feedback on laps. The Garmin Swim training watch was announced ahead of the U.S. Masters Swimming Championships in Omaha, Nebraska taking place July 5-8. Continue reading Garmin Swim Watch Makes a Splash

3T Stem Integrates Cycle-computer

As efforts are made to streamline every last part of a bike something has seemed a bit odd – namely those cycle-computer mounts that sort of ruin the sleek lines and look a bit like a tumor on the handlebars. But last season 3T introduced an integrated steam – fittingly called the Integra. Now comes word that the stem will be used this season by the Team Garmin-Barracuda in this season’s pro cycling races. Continue reading 3T Stem Integrates Cycle-computer

Garmin Back Pedals on Pedal-Based Power Meter

Absolute power mar corrupt absolutely, but that won’t be a problem for Garmin. Our friends at BikeRadar have reported that Garmin has delayed the release of its highly anticipated Vector pedal-based power meter.

“After testing our latest advanced prototypes of the Vector system, we are still not satisfied with the results,” said Garmin in a statement. “As you can imagine, Vector is a complex, precision measurement instrument and as of yet, we are unable to ensure that this device will meet the expectations of the cycling community. Presently, we cannot estimate a delivery date but we do not expect the product to be ready in the summer of 2012, as previously targeted. We understand that this is a highly anticipated product within the cycling community, but Garmin’s commitment to quality necessitates this additional delay. We will update our customers when we have additional information to share.”

All power may be fleeting, but those looking for a pedal-based system to track power, there is still the Look/Polar designed Look KeO.

Dave Zabriskie, the New Voice of Navigation

httpv://youtu.be/7AfwI_g-IFc

The headline may be a bit of an overstatement, but Dave Zabriskie recently had a recording session with Garmin Cervelo team sponsor Garmin to lend his voice to the downloadable Team Garmin bundle for Garmin Nuvi devices.

Zabriskie’s voice will be available as part of the downloadable Team Garmin bundle from Garmin Garage later in November. The video lets you hear, and see, some of what’s included in the bundle. “I’ll turn this car around…”

Nuvi devices are for cars, motorcycles and trucks, and not bicycles, but we thought it was worthy when a pro-cyclist gets to provide his voice for GPS driving directions. Besides, who knows the road better than a cyclist?
