On November 3, the International Olympics Committee (IOC) launched a new Olympic Athletes’ Hub app in order to connect fans with Olympic athletes like never before. With a searchable directory of all athletes and their various social network feeds, fans can find their favorite stars on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Last weekend in Park City, Utah, some of the best climbers in the world competed in an event unlike anything else in the sport.

The Psicobloc Masters Series was the first major deep-water soloing competition held in the U.S. Climbers competed head-to-head on identical routes up a 50-foot wall, no ropes or harnesses, just a massive swimming pool below to catch their fall. Skateistan began as a Kabul-based NGO, and now operates projects in Afghanistan, Cambodia, and Pakistan, with a second facility opening in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan, in 2013. Skateistan focuses on reaching out to girls and working children, using skateboarding as a tool for developing leadership opportunities, and building friendship, trust, and social capital among its students. While skateboarding is the initial way to get students involved, Skateistan is then able to provide access to education and platforms for self-expression that help break the cycles of poverty and exclusion. Interbike Goes Electric

Bob Dylan went electric so why not Interbike? The organizers of the largest bicycle trade show in North America announced this month that it will host electric bike manufacturers and journalists at an event that will showcase pedal-assist bikes.

The Electric Bike Media Event is set for February 12-13 at the Terranea Resot in Rancho Palos Verdes, and will allow companies to introduce their products and technologies to consumer media. SRAM, Prodeco, Easy Motion USA, Currie Technologies and Bikes Belong have announced that they will be attending the event.

Interbike 2012: Polaris to Debut Bike with EVantage

At next week’s bike show it might be time that the electric motors get running. Electric bikes certainly play a larger than usual role at the show, and Polaris Industries has announced that it has a partnership with EVantage to introduce a new line. This is reportedly a big move in major e-bikes more mainstream.

“The Polaris name has always been synonymous with superior design and quality, and these electric bicycles are no exception,” says EVantage President Brandon Kaplan. “Each and every detail was crafted with the consumer in mind, which stays true to Polaris’ inherent need to provide usable and applicable products to their customers.
