Cargo Hauler

FietsklikThe Dutch know a thing or two about hauling stuff on a bike, and Fietsklik has introduced a line of bicycle carrying solutions. This system utilizes a “Klik” adapter, which allows a standard pannier rack to accept a range of special accessories – that the company makes of course!

This includes sturdy box-racks, bags and even a child seat.

Virtuous Rides

Virtue-BusPatience is a virtue it is often said, and for those who can sit back and enjoy a ride to work Virtue Bikes might be the way to go. The company offers a number of bicycles that evoke the pleasures of riding and a return to simpler times.

The company offers a cargo bike, the Virtue Truck, which can be carry a total of 110 pounds, but what really turned our heads was the Virtue School Bus (above), a bike that can carry about 300 pounds (meaning a kid or two) in the front cargo container. Continue reading Virtuous Rides

Danish Cargo Bike Ready to Roll

Butchers-&-BicyclesWhile the Dutch are often associated with cargo bikes their cousins to the north know a thing or two about bicycles as well. Denmark’s Butchers & Bicycles has created the Mk1 cargo bike that can handle corners better than most. The bike is actually designed to “lean” in when making a turn, which is something that will no doubt turn heads as well.

The Mk1 features the designer’s proprietary Balance Point Tilting system along with a powder coated T6 aluminum frame, an infinitely-variable NuVinci N360 planetary hub transmission, an ABUS frame lock, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes on all three wheels, and Schwalbe puncture-proof 20- and 26-inch tires. The bike also utilizes an ABS cargo box, which has a front access door along with mounts for children car seats. It has a maximum load capacity of 100 kg (220.5 lb), so this thing can probably haul as much as the rider’s can handle. Continue reading Danish Cargo Bike Ready to Roll

On the Monkey Bars

MonkeyBarsCargo bikes offer a good way to carry some stuff, but now Yuba Bikes has devised a way of carrying even more precious cargo – namely the tots.

The company sees these as the “new station wagon,” and has added the “Monkey Bars” – compatible with the Yuba Mundo V4 model – as way to bring along up to three younger kids. The bars fully wrap around the young riders and it is compatible with the Peanut Shell baby seat, so it can be used from infants to children of up to seven years of age. Video after the jump

Noomadic Ride

NomadThroughout history nomadic people have had to travel and in essence carry everything they own, but today we live in houses and apartments and tend to require moving vans even for short relocations. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t times when being able to carry a bit more while on the go wouldn’t be helpful.

This is where the Noomad comes in. Unlike the concept S-Cargo Carrier that we saw this spring this one is actually ready to hit the road.  The Spanish-made bike attachment from Polo De Innovacion Garaia is designed to transform a traditional two-wheeler into a stable, three-wheeled cycle that can haul everything from luggage to groceries and more. This one even features an integrated braking system that can attach quickly to the bike, so in addition to stability there is also full braking ability. While not a complete bike the Noomad is actually something that can transform most bicycles into something that can carry a whole more than just a wicker basket.

See That S-Car Go

S-cargoIf necessity is the mother of invention than Israeli designer Ofir Yadan might be the crazy uncle. He’s created a unique solution that transforms a typical mountain bike in cargo-carrier tricycle.

The S-cargo bike basically works by removing the front wheel of a bike and replacing it with a special hauler that resembles a golf bag cart. This provides greater stability but also allows for a variety of items to be transported. The only downside in the current design is that the rider loses the use of a front brake but that’s a small price to pay for the ability to turn a bike into an S-cargo carrier. Video after the jump

Cargo Hauler

Yuba-Mundo-LuxRiding to the store isn’t such a bad idea, until you picked up just a few more things than intended. A road bike can’t easily be weighted down with a week’s groceries, but this is where bikes like the Yuba Mundo Lux come in. This is designed to carry heavy cargo – and it even features a NuVinci hub that can make the going a whole lot easier. Video after the jump

Bicycle Pack Mule

Horses have an advantage over donkeys – girls like ponies and horse race is the sport of kings. But donkeys are beasts of burden, and just a step up the chain gang from mules. Horses may be good for riding but donkeys are the preferred choice for hauling goods.

This no doubt is what inspired the makers of the Donky Bike – and yes they dropped the “e” in donkey but we don’t know why. What we do know is that the bike looks to be smaller than the average two-wheeled hauler. It is designed to handle well in traffic, but still durable when it comes to hauling goods. It features a unique design that includes two removable racks, one in the front and one in the rear. This puts the design puts the load in the front over the frame not the fork so steering and handling isn’t affected.

The bike features 20-inch BMX wheels, V-brakes, a single piece crankset and 3-speed internal Shimano Nexus hub. This means there is little that can go wrong or be stolen. Since a donkey is something known as an “ass” we’d say this one is a smart ass or one haulin’ ass indeed! Video after the jump

Xtracycle Adds Sidecar for Cargo Bikes

Xtracycle has made a name for itself in the cargo bike space, but if the cargo space on the bikes isn’t enough the company now is looking to add a bit more with a sidecar attachment. This add-on mounts using the horizontal dropouts, and can hold up to 200 pounds on a 24-inch by 30-inch platform. In other words if you have some extra that you need to carry, Xtracycles probably can make it happen. Video after the jump

EuroBike: Urban Arrow Aims to Be Second Car

Many people in the Netherlands don’t own cars and rely on bicycles to get around. But even those who do own a car tend to use the bike as a “second car,” and that’s what the designers of Urban Arrow are aiming for this new cargo bike.

Bakfiets Urban Arrow is a multi-function cargo bike that includes a padded, rain-protected cargo box but as taken the concept beyond pedal power, adding an electric motor to help riders get from point A to point B. The bike was first unveiled at the 2010 Eurobike trade show and is being demonstrated at this year’s show. As the video suggests this could easily be a second car for just about anyone – the question is whether the car crowd could be swayed to become pedal pushers. Video after the jump

Yuba Boda Do

While we don’t think Fred Flintstone was much of a cyclist we know he appreciated pedal power and he’d like give this new cargo bike an approving “yabba dubba do,” which is fitting as it is Yuba’s Boda Boda. The bike is now available in two options including the step over apple green for taller riders and a step thru model for those shorter riders.

Both feature a rear rack that can be used to haul some stuff, while the bike even offers a carrying handle so it can be carried as well, making this an idea ride for urban dwellers. It also features a SRAM X-3 8-speed drivetrain so it can climb hills and deal with other rolling terrain.
