Clever Ski Pole
Winter is finally over – in fact it never arrived for much of the country – but that doesn’t mean it isn’t too early to think about next year. Actually it is Neva too early, as in Anthony Griesel’s Neva microprocessor-equipped ski poles that will bring “smart” technology to skiing and back wood snowshoeing and hiking.
Each pole features a waterproof grip with a mini-computer that can be linked via Bluetooth to an app on a user’s iPhone or Android device, and this could allow for flashes for incoming calls and even the ability to take calls without taking off the gloves. Other possibilities include text messages, and basic (but very useful data) such as temperature and elevation, as well as time. GPS could of course be a future possibility. Video after the jump

Arrival of Android Mount is Logical
Mr. Spock on TV’s Star Trek would probably think it is illogical that Android users don’t get the same level of product offerings as their iPhone counterparts. But logic, or rather BioLogic, proves that Android users shouldn’t be left out.
The company has unveiled its Bike Mount for Android, a weatherproof case for Android-based smartphones that can mount to bicycle handlebars. This allows users to use GPS, and other apps on the phone to track speed, position or distance traveled, well riding. Not everyone can get the pro treatment, but the folks beyond Who’s Your Caddy, a free mobile golf app, has launched a new website to help golfers and courses alike improve the game.
For those in the swing, this website features Caddy Tips, complete with hole-by-hole video from the club professional offering tips and suggestions, as well as Gimmes, which include free gifts from neighborhood businesses. Additionally, golfers can use their smart phones to gather enhanced GPS information about playing the course, while the golf course receives a generous revenue share through their participation in the Who’s Your Caddy Mobile Marketing Program. Spin Like a Mad Dogg!
While spring is upon us and that means it is time to get those rides in outdoors, there is still much to be said for spinning. Now Mad Dogg Athletics, the creators of the Spinning indoor cycling program , along with Digifit, a mobile wireless health and fitness developer, have announced the launch of the Spinning app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, as well as the Spinning Tracker website.
The new app and website will allow riders to get into the spin with a complete system for heart-rate and cadence tracking as well as a progress-management solution for fitness trainers. The new Spinning app is designed to track heart-rate, cadence, caloric burn and several other metrics, which are measured by the app for reference during and post workout. Each Spinning session is digitally documented and instantly transferred to a personalized online Spinning Tracker account where users can view, share and edit exercise results. Mobile Personal Training Looks to Bulk Up
Those who use mobile personal training will soon get to bulk up – at least in terms of the software they use to help to stay fit. This week Cybex International Inc., exercise equipment manufacturer, and PumpOne, professional personal training solutions developer, announced a partnership that will provide users of online and mobile fitness applications with increased access to Cybex technology and research.
“PumpOne is on the cutting edge of fitness technology, and Cybex is proud to partner with them to provide exercise and programming content that will help FitnessBuilder users maximize their workout results,” said Ray Giannelli, senior vice president of research and development for Cybex.
In the coming months, official Cybex exercises will join the more than 2,000 exercises featured in PumpOne’s FitnessBuilder platform, available online and on iOS and Android mobile devices. In addition to the individual exercises at the core of the platform, FitnessBuilder will provide full workout programs designed by Cybex Research Institute (CRI) experts, and give users access to CRI’s fitness advice and innovative research.
