Marvelous Apparel

BurtonBurton Snowboards is looking marvelous with its new youth outerwear jacket and pant collaboration with Marvel Entertainment. These feature a an exclusive one-of-a-kind print of Marvel’s Avengers Assemble featuring bold, iconic illustrations of Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow and Hawkeye.

While lacking the steel exoskeleton of say Iron Man, this is somewhat superhero worthy in other ways. The line features DRYRIDE weatherproofing and strategically placed Thermacore insulation for super-powered warmth and waterproofing. Aspiring Avengers will also love the jacket’s hidden facemask, removable waist gaiter and extra waterproof welded seams.

Dual Purpose Deck

Pro-Line-V3There have been a few concept skateboards that looked to go off-road, and others that looked to provide some juice to get up and go. The Altered V3 DS, is the world’s first dual sport electric skateboard. In other words, this concept – which is now being developed through a Kickstarter project – is both on-and-off road board, and it features an electric engine. It could make it the go-anywhere board – but only if it gets the funding it seems. Video after the jump

It Just CL!CKS

CL!CKWhen out on the slopes the last thing you are likely to have is a tool to adjust your bindings. The CL!CK CARABINER is something that will likely be within reach and is thus there when you really need it most.

This tool provides a large slot screwdriver, a pair of Phillips heads and even bottle opener for those times when you reach the end of the run. While designed with skiers and snowboarders in mind, this could be a tool for anyone looking to clip one on. Designer Mark Schmid of San Diego is now looking to Kickstarter to get the CL!CK to click with investors. Video after the jump

Wiley X Honors the Vets

Veterans-DayToday is Veterans Day, which since 1958 has been set aside to honor veterans of all wars for their service and sacrifice. Few companies do as much to recognize the vets as veteran-owned Wiley X.

“Expressing gratitude to our nation’s veterans is a cause that’s near and dear to our hearts,” said Myles Freeman, Jr., Co-Owner of Wiley X. “Our way of life and the freedoms we enjoy every day are gifts from the men and women who have served in all branches of America’s armed forces. Their sacrifices deserve to be remembered and recognized not just this one day, but every day of the year,” added Freeman.

Along with Wiley X we at KineticShift, to all the vets out there we say thank you for you service!

Mighty Morphing Helmet

MORPHERA helmet is a good thing to have when riding the mean streets, but as we’ve found many opt not to don one on their heads because it can be a pain to have to carry it around the whole day. We’ve seen some folding helmets already, but the Morpher truly knows when to fold it.

This helmet is now being designed via an Indiegogo project, and unlike other designs this one folds completely flat. The prototypes have already passed European testing standards and British designer Jeff Woolf is looking to get authorities in Australia and the U.S. on board as well. This could be the beginning of one mighty, morphing bike helmet. Video after the jump

New York’s Finest Use the Bike Lanes

NYPDNew York’s finest – as in the NYPD – are apparently putting the city’s robust bike lane infrastructure to good use. However, the police aren’t riding on the bike lanes. They are using the bike lanes for parking. We previously witnessed this first hand for a few years, but the problem has grown so big that someone has launched a Thumblr blog that tracks it.

The website Cops in the Bike Lanes, noted: Rules of the City of New York, § 4-08 (e)(9): “It is against the law to park, stand or stop within or otherwise obstruct bike lanes.”

To serve and protect indeed!

To the Core

BauerBauer Hockey is looking to improve the performance of hockey sticks by going straight to the core. The new line of sticks feature a ROHACELL polymethacry limide (PMI) foam as a structural core in the blade that makes it extremely rigid yet good at withstanding extreme temperatures.

The trade magazine Reinforced Plastics noted, “To produce the Bauer ice hockey sticks, carbon fibre impregnated with epoxy resin is wrapped around the pre-formed rigid foam core. High temperatures are applied during the subsequent curing of the resin, yet ROHACELL remains stable and provides counter pressure. The small, uniform pores in the foam structure ensure that very little resin escapes into the foam cells of the core surface.”

The result is a stick that offers a uniform blade structure that won’t change even after taking many hits!

Nike Embellishment

Nike-Lunar-EmbellishNike has always been a company that has seen fit to add some embellishment to shoes in the name of style, but the new Nike Golf line of women’s shoes actually combines the four-shoes-in-one concept that promises an updated, modernized design that is lighter and gives golfers more control at impact.

The Nike Lunar Embellish golf shoe, which is available starting today, is significantly lighter than the previous model. It weighs in at just 8.6 ounces thanks to the incorporation of lighter materials and a slimmer, more refined design that keeps athletes comfortable and reduces fatigue. This in turn allows them to forget about their feet and focus on their round.

The shoes feature Lunarlon Technology that provides responsive cushioning in the heel and works in conjunction with Integrated Traction on the outsole to provide control at impact. For style the shoes also feature two reversible saddles – four colors in total – which allow female golfers to match their shoes to their outfits, bags and more on any given day.

Helmet Safety Questioned Again

SportsWe noted earlier today that the European Cycling Federation is questioning whether enforcing helmets to be worn for cycling could actually keep people off bikes, but could helmets be to blame for concussions in youth sports?

A new study released by the Institute of Medicine is looking at the controversy surrounding concussions in youth sports. This study, which focused on sports-related brain injuries, apparently points to a startling lack of data in the youth demographic.

“Little to no youth and high school programs place an emphasis on strengthening the neck, which is one of the most important exercises to help prevent concussions,” said Dan Geraci M.S., head strength coach at Hard Pressed. He added that concussions often go unreported as parents are unfamiliar with the signs and symptoms of a concussion. In addition, the data from the study suggests that helmets and mouth guards may be providing a false sense of security and safety. “We need to educate parents and coaches on the proper measures for protecting our young athletes,” Geraci added.

On the Monkey Bars

MonkeyBarsCargo bikes offer a good way to carry some stuff, but now Yuba Bikes has devised a way of carrying even more precious cargo – namely the tots.

The company sees these as the “new station wagon,” and has added the “Monkey Bars” – compatible with the Yuba Mundo V4 model – as way to bring along up to three younger kids. The bars fully wrap around the young riders and it is compatible with the Peanut Shell baby seat, so it can be used from infants to children of up to seven years of age. Video after the jump
