Good Vibrations

Some good vibrations might make working out a bit easier, and this is notable as vibration plates have been proving increasingly popular in fitness centers across the world. Now, UK-based JTX Fitness has announced a new addition to its range of machines with the introduction of the JTX Salon Pro. This isn’t simply a commercial grade oscillating machine built to withstand daily use either. Instead it features a wide range of speed settings and program, as well as workout straps and an impressive 1500 watt pivotal vibration motor.

The JTX Salon Pro offers the promise to bring the fitness phenomenon to an even wider range of fitness establishments, and even the home. Key specifications include a large 68 x 51cm base, 60 speed settings, 23 program, an oscillating amplitude of 12mm and a 1500w vibration motor.

Common exercises like sit-ups, press-ups and squats are enhanced when performed in contact with the plate: it is therefore a simple to use machine that demands less of inexperienced users and is suitable for gym users of all ages. It also takes up little floor space in a home or fitness centre, adding to its appeal. It doesn’t hurt that it has a space-age image either: whole body vibration therapy was pioneered to counter loss of muscle and bone mass among Russian cosmonauts. Video after the jump

Jono Hub Helps You Get On the Road

It is quite possible that if you have been a cyclist few any number of years, you have a number of bike parts and frames hanging around the garage. Some of these frames might have been held onto for sentimental value or inherited from others, but for some reason they are still around. If the dream of building one of these back into a working bike has been inhibited by the lack of components that fit, Paul Component Engineering may have a product to come to the rescue – at least with regards to the rear wheel. Paul Component Engineering has a rear hub that offers the flexibility to fit multiple bike frames, spanning decades of production years. Not only is the Jono Hub a high quality hub, but it is accompanied by the parts needed to properly adjust the hub to the rear spacing of that ‘project bike’.

First and foremost, the Jono Hub is designed to get an older bike back on the road. Throughout the years, the rear frame spacing, the part of the frame that the rear wheel attaches to the frame, has become wider. This means that a new 11-speed rear wheel will not likely fit into a road bike frame from the 1970s. The Jono Hub is designed to use and comes with a number of different axle spacers to adjust the Jono Hub to the unique spacing of the classic frame hanging in the garage.

Along with fitting that unique rear spacing of one frame, the Jono Hub allows one rear wheel to be built and swapped between multiple bikes just as long as the same rim size is used on each of those frames. Even if the rear frame spacing is different, just swap the axle end caps and spacer; swap the freewheels; and adjust the dish if required. It is not as quick as changing a tube, but it does allow the flexibility of having one nice wheel for multiple project bikes as opposed to many lower grade wheels.

Gocycle 2 Getting Ready to Roll

Earlier this year former McLaren Cars design engineer Richard Thorpe rolled out the Gocycle, the first generation electric bike, and soon after announced plans for an updated version. Now Karbon Kinetics Limited has released the technical specifications for its upcoming Gocycle G2, which will weigh in at a lean 32.8 pounds, and feature a German-made 250 watt electric motor with in-house controller for a top speed of 15.5 mph in pedelec or 20 mph in empower mode. The G2 will propel riders for up to 40 miles in the pedelec mode or 20 miles in the empower mode on a single battery charge, and riders should be able to juice up and go again in about three and a half hours.

This could make for an interesting commuter vehicle for urban dwellers and those with reasonable commutes, and is aided by the fact that the whole bike can fold up for transport and storage between rides, and quickly transform for when the rider is ready to go again! Dave Zabriskie, the New Voice of Navigation

httpv://youtu.be/7AfwI_g-IFc

The headline may be a bit of an overstatement, but Dave Zabriskie recently had a recording session with Garmin Cervelo team sponsor Garmin to lend his voice to the downloadable Team Garmin bundle for Garmin Nuvi devices.

Zabriskie’s voice will be available as part of the downloadable Team Garmin bundle from Garmin Garage later in November. The video lets you hear, and see, some of what’s included in the bundle. “I’ll turn this car around…”

Nuvi devices are for cars, motorcycles and trucks, and not bicycles, but we thought it was worthy when a pro-cyclist gets to provide his voice for GPS driving directions. Besides, who knows the road better than a cyclist?

(Click image for closer view of the Calyx and Scorpion shells)

Fans of the book series A Song of Fire and Snow, which is the basis of HBO’s Game of Thrones are probably all too familiar with the line “winter is coming,” but given that we’re a week away from Thanksgiving there is no denying it. Winter is coming. Fortunately you don’t have to climb into a shell to avoid it, instead you can suit up in a new Gore-Tex mountain shell for winter.

Sprayway is offering two new shells for the long cold days ahead including the Scorpion (men’s) and Calyx (women’s) jackets, which are also ideal year round. These utilize standard Gore-Tex Peformance Shell fabric that will keep the cold wind off the back, along with adjustable mountin hoods with wired peak, large map-sized pockets, , pit-zips with storm flaps, adjustable hems, waist and cuffs and even venting options so wearer’s don’t get too heated. These are hiker friendly as pockets sit above the waist-belt level making these ideal for those wearing a pack. These won’t bulk up the wearer either, as the Calyx weighs in at 698g while the Scorpion is 941g.

Winter is coming. Sprayway will make it a bit easier to endure it!
