Halo Belt Offers Wearable Lights

While we won’t be surprised if this shows up in dance clubs, the Halo Belt is actually a pretty novel concept. It is an LED light system that is wearable around the waist or across the chest. It works by providing illumination through a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fiber optic that creates a bright glowing wearable light.

The Halo Belt can be worn by cyclists, runners or even just people who go out for a walk on dark streets. It runs on just two CR2024 batteries and offers up to 20 consecutive hours of run time. The company is currently engaged in a Kickstarter campaign but also already succeeded in raising eight times its goal.

Thus we should the belts in red, blue, yellow and green in the not too distance future.

World Record Set in London – But Not at Olympics

While the eyes of the world are on London and the Olympic Games, another world record was set for fitness. This time it wasn’t in the pool, on the velodrome or on the track – it was on the treadmill! Cybex International announced that Forest School in London set the farthest distance covered on one treadmill in 24 hours. The maker of premium exercise equipment provided two 750T treadmills for the challenge.

This was a team accomplishment with runners consisting of teachers, parents and students age 16 to 18, who ran a total of 437km – or nearly 272 miles – in a 24-hour period. This broke the previous record, which was set by a German team in 2010, by more than 15km. To accomplish this record distance the team averaged 11.3 miles per hour, which is a pace better than 5:18 per mile. Continue reading World Record Set in London – But Not at Olympics

Outdoor Retail Show: Minimus Hi-Rez Shoes Promise Big Step Forward for Running

The minimal running shoe concept continues to take foot, and at the recent Outdoor Retail Show New Balance offered a look at its Minimus Hi-Rez, a running shoe that weighs just 4.3-ounces yet provides a reasonable amount of cushion and protection for the wearer.

The secret is the hexagon rubber pods on the sole. 42 of these unconnected nubs, which are mounted on the soft foot bed, provide cushion for those who want to go minimal but not quite barefoot. The sole is flexible and each pod moves independently as the wearer walks or funs, but still provides that moderate protection.

The shows will be available later this summer.

Review: Adidas AdiPure Trainer Toe Shoes

I was recently given the opportunity to try out the new Adidas AdiPure Trainer Toe Shoes and give my opinion on what I thought of them. So, I figured why not give it a go.

At first glance you can already see that it will be a new and interesting experience. I have never tried the minimalist toe style shoes in the past and was intrigued on how it would be. I pulled the shoes out of the cloth bag that they came in and was caught off guard by their red color and unusual toe design. I immediately took off my socks and slid the shoes on to my bare feet. I found it a little difficult, at first, to get all of my toes in to the areas of the shoes in which they belonged. But, once I did I found that they were very comfortable on my feet. It was almost like wearing gloves. Continue reading Review: Adidas AdiPure Trainer Toe Shoes
