CamOne Action Cam

There are several unique takes on the action camcorder market, and CamOne could be a bit of a game changer. Like most rugged go anywhere video cameras, the CamOne Infinity can shoot in 1080p at 30 fps or 720p at 60 fps. It can be mounted on a helmet or handlebars, and it offers an LCD screen to view the action right after you shot it.

But what really makes this one stand out is the fact that it offers interchangeable lenses. The CamOne Infinity’s standard lens offers a 170-degee, wide-angle filming in WVGA, 720p and 960p as well as 127-degree filming in 1080p. Additional lenses are reportedly coming soon and will include 142-degree and 96-degree options. Continue reading CamOne Action Cam

Yakka Reviews

There are many specialty sites, and this month saw the launch of Heart Rate Watch Reviews from Yakka, Inc. The company specializes in under-served information market, and the site was born out of Emil Yau of Yakka’s own enthusiasm for an active lifestyle.

“I put a high value on living a healthy and active lifestyle. While regular exercise and healthy dieting is important, monitoring your heart rate can also be important,” states Yau. “Heart rate watches can be a vital part of an exercise program. They can help you target your heart rate to stay within specific zones whether for upping your exercise regimen or because of existing health conditions that require it.”

Having another opinion and a way to compare devices sounds good to us.

For a Green Ride, Get EcoFit

We’ve seen more and more fitness machines actually supplying power back to the grid, and now with the EcoFit Networking System and Display from SportArt Fitness, users can see how much energy they are producing while working out and actually get rewarded for their efforts.

With these machines users are provided with data on the electricity they are producing on in-club digital media displays; allows for localized facility and environmental, “green” messaging on the display screen and includes a “points” accumulation system for energy created by the user. These points can then be redeemed at the club or a hotel, university or school with fitness facilities – building brand loyalty and user loyalty for the facility. Video after the jump

eSport Clip Offers Affordable Media Player

It used to be that media players were so expensive that you’d never want to actually use them while working out. But like everything else the technology gets faster, smaller and best of all for the end user cheaper. How low does it go? We recently heard about the eSport Clip MP3/Video player from Ematic, which offers a 1.8-inch screen so it can be used to watch video clips or even read e-books and text files. And it is just $29.00.

So for under $30 you have a 5megapixel digital camera as well, and the device includes a 4GB flash drive for 2300 songs, or 20 hours of videos. It is easy to sync up with the USB 2.0 connection. It probably isn’t the most durable device but at this price are you really going to worry?

GPS Watch Keeps Track of Alzheimer’s Patients

Comedian Ellen DeGeneres in her early days as a standup comedian told the joke, “My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She’s ninety-seven now, and we don’t know where the hell she is.” Funny joke, but for many people this is no laughing matter.

Fortunately the same technology that can allow athletes to know how where and how far they’ve run can be used to keep track of family members with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Swiss-based u-blox has created Watchie, a GPS-based device that can be worn by patients as a watch and provide real time GPS tracking for caregivers.

Advanced features can include “safe zones” that can be set to alert caretakers should the patient leave a designated zone, as well as a G-Senor that detects sudden movement should the wearer fall down. Best of all the Watchie’s battery will run for weeks, so even those active grandmother’s will likely tire out before the GPS gives out.

This looks like the beginning of an annual fundraiser from the non-profit humanitarian organization with the aim to improve the health, well being and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions. The group is also working to provide clean water programs. Continue reading BlackBerry Surfs up $260,000 for SurfAid

Just be SMART About Fitness and Diet

It is probably an obvious point, but we need to be smarter about our fitness, and here is where technology can help. But to be smart, we can be SMART – as in using Self-Monitoring and Recording with Technology. These were among the findings of a new study announced at last week’s American Heart Association conference in California, that overweight adults who used handheld devices to deliver personalized dietary and exercise reminders were actually able to better stick to their diets than those who simply kept paper diaries or used unresponsive electronic devices.
