Smartphone Emerges as a Workout Tool
We’ve known for a long time that our smartphone is a great workout accessory, but a market research report released by Lab42 just drives the point home. The agency surveyed 500 social media users currently focused on their health and fitness. Among the respondents, 51 percent use their smartphones during their workout. Of those, 91 percent use their smartphone to listen to music; 43 percent track their pace on their phone; and 33 percent check their email while workout out. Pebble Smartwatch Gets First App
The most-funded Kickstarter project to date is the Pebble smartwatch, and it landed its first app partner this week – working-tracking app RunKeeper. Users will still have to wait until fall for the release, but when it arrives it will be able to interact with an iPhone or Android device, and with the RunKeeper app will provide data straight to the wrist. Take The National Bike Challenge
This week the League of American Bicyclists, Bikes Belong, Endomondo and the Kimberly-Clark Corporation kicked off the National Bike Challenge, which runs from today until until August 31, 2012. This is a new, nationwide initiative to inspire and empower millions of Americans to ride their bikes for transportation, recreation and better health.
The friendly, online competition is looking to unite 50,000 bicyclists to ride 10 million miles in communities across America. The Challenge is simple, free and open to everyone, and can sign up as an individual or as a team, log your miles, share your stories and encourage others to join you. Smartphones users can download the free, GPS-enabled Endomondo mobile app to record travel distance and automatically upload their miles. Riders will compete for prizes and awards on the local and national level, including a Grand Prize trip through California wine country from Trek Travel. Arrival of Android Mount is Logical
Mr. Spock on TV’s Star Trek would probably think it is illogical that Android users don’t get the same level of product offerings as their iPhone counterparts. But logic, or rather BioLogic, proves that Android users shouldn’t be left out.
The company has unveiled its Bike Mount for Android, a weatherproof case for Android-based smartphones that can mount to bicycle handlebars. iPhone Scuba Case For Underwater Use
While the TAT7 iPhone Scuba Case won’t actually let you use the handset as a phone underwater, it will let you snap away with the smartphone’s digital camera.
It is made of clear polycarbonate and features a hinged opening, while double gaskets allow the iPhone to go deep to 100 feet (or about 30 meters). It provides three buttons on the back to allow users to access the basics, including touchscreen photo and video controls.
For those who want to snap a few “deep sea” or just “in the pool” shots, this should be an excellent solution for making the iPhone your own under water camera.
