Retro Glove

Shoeless-Joe-JacksonEven though he was banned from the game following the Black Sox Scandal in 1920, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson is still a real legend in baseball. So it is fitting that the Handmade Baseball Gloves offers the 1937 Fielder’s Glove by Shoeless Joe Gloves, a retro looking glove is custom-made by hand from high quality materials, specially aged, hand oiled and even professionally broken-in.

It looks like something that would come straight out of the cornfields and from a time before million dollar salaries.

Swell Idea Indeed

Swell-IdeaMost surfboard designers tend to be old surfers, but two Delaware teens are looking to launch their own surfboard business. Delmarvanow reported: “Clay Reynolds, a 15-year-old sophomore at Indian River High School from Ocean View, and Amber Starr Davis, a 19-year-old sophomore at Delaware Technical & Community College from Dagsboro, are joining forces to create a series of custom boards for surfers and surfing fans, alike.”

Reynolds might be just 15 but he has reportedly been surfing most of his life, and has been building boards for more than a year. Davis has been painting custom skateboard decks and now it has blossomed into a custom surfboard project.

To build a board takes about a month, which for these young builders might seem like ages.

Skateboard Class

skateboardGreen Bay middle students won’t be allowed to ride skateboards in class, but they’ll be able to learn to build them from scratch. While some students will opt to use the boards, others are in to test their design and graphic art skills.

Art teacher Sara Tlachac reportedly thought it was a way to get students working with their hands to create something unique, and more importantly that they could even use. Certainly beats the papier-mâché animals we made in class!

Another BrickLock in the Wall

BrickLockManchester-based Lion Forge has a solution for securing a bike. Instead of providing a rack that is mounted to the ground the BrickLock is a laser-cut steel device that can take the place of a single brick, which can be used with a heavy duty chain to lock up the bike.

This obviously is a concept for buildings not individuals, and probably is ideal during construction or a serious renovation project not just to remove and replace another brick in the wall. However, it could serve to provide inspiration to those buildings looking for ways to optimize bike storage.

Review: Arnicare Arnica Gel from Boiron

ArnicareWhile we typically talk about, and review, tech-related gear to use for workouts and recovery, we find that sometimes you have to go low tech to get relief. Dwarf-Sized Axe

Joseph-Bowen-Micro-AxeThe Joseph Bowen Micro Hatchet TAD Edition is not an axe for a dwarf but it be used one-handed, while its design centers the force of the impact into the middle of the blade allowing for even hard objects to be cut. It is skeletonized to reduce weight, and it features one large center hole to aid the grip. This might just be the axe to take hiking, camping, unless you actually need to chop a lot of wood.

Don’t Forget to Bring a Towel

Everlane-TowelIf you’re a fan of South Park you know that the character Towlie was kind of annoying, but yet still had a few interesting moments. He (can a towel be a “he”) also made it impossible for us to forget to bring a towel when heading to the beach or pool. The problem is that most towels simply aren’t all that good at soaking up water and keeping us dry.

This brings us to the Everlane Pool Towel. The company claimed it couldn’t find the perfect towel, so it made their own. The Turkish-made towel is available in white and blue, and even features the word “Towel” monogrammed on the front. Best of all this towel probably won’t want to get high.

Hawkman Deck Goes to the Smithsonian

Tony-HawkArt is something that remains subjective, but the Smithsonian Institution isn’t just about fine art – it also is a chronicle of the influence left by pop culture. To this end it is fitting that skateboard legend Tony Hawk will be donating his first skateboard to the Smithsonian this Saturday.

The Wheel Reinvented

Shark-WheelPeople often say they’re not trying to reinvent the wheel, but that is pretty much what the folks at Shark Wheel are looking to do. This “square” skateboarding wheel is designed to shred as much as it rolls. It allows riders to handle wet surfaces better and even allow for riding through gravel or other rough conditions.

The wheels are designed around a shape that fits inside a cube, and while not technically a square it isn’t quite round either. This helical shape is further enhanced by the fact that the wheel is made up of three strips, which means there are less friction points on the ground. This in turn allows the wheel to roll faster than a traditional wheel while providing that better handling.

The creators of the Shark Wheels are now looking to get things Kickstarter and hope to roll out later this year. Video after the jump
