Height Adjustable Wheel Block for Indoor Riding

It is starting to feel like that time of the year when riding moves from the outdoors to the indoors. As the weather cools, and as it gets dark earlier many cyclists opt to hit the trainer instead of the road. Most rear wheel trainers thus raise the back end of the bike, which results in a feeling of going downhill – something that can effect balance and the quality of the ride on the trainer.

But the Retül Levül might just level the field – or rather the living room. It is much more than just a block or lift, and in fact is fully adjustable in height so the front wheel can be just where you need it. And it is much more stable than phone books. Nerf Ball Goes High Tech

While the Nerf football was not the first Nerf ball, since 1972 it has the brand’s most popular ball. It has been used in pickup games ever since. Now 40 years the Nerf Firevision could allow night games where lights aren’t required. The new ball, which is also available in a basketball version, light up.

And so that the game playing doesn’t attract too much attention these Nerf balls can only be seen by those wearing Firevision glasses. No charging required.

Interbike 2012: Roll it for Recovery

Have you ever finished a run or ride and your legs feel heavy or sore? That feeling is due to the breaking down of the muscle tissues and ‘toxins’ like lactic acid that build up inside the muscles. A massage is one of the best ways to flush those toxins and improve circulation which in turn will speed recovery and rebuilding of those muscle tissues. Unfortunately not everyone can afford their own personal masseur, the cost of paying for a daily massage, or they simply are not close to a Massage Therapist. There are a number of different devices on the market to help an athlete perform a massage on their own aching muscles when they can’t get a massage. While down at Interbike this year, we had a chance to checkout a new entry in the personal massage market – the R8 from Roll Recovery is a roller type of device that is designed specifically for use on an athlete’s legs. Treadmill on the Wall

This past summer we noted the Climblock Rotor Wall, a rotating climbing wall that was ideal for those with big bucks and bigger space. While the Climblock could see its way to gyms and fitness clubs it just won’t work in most homes.

But the Treadwall could be the answer. This machine offers a 4 foot wide climbing area and works much like a treadmill – except that it is vertical instead of horizontal obviously. It is still 10 feet tall, so probably not ideal for those with low ceilings. The M4 Base model comes as a vertical only unit that is affordable but can be used against a wall, while the M4 PRO even offers a +5 to -20 degree angle to up the challenge.

Kinetic(Mis)Shift: Fit Wet Seems All Wet to Us

httpv://youtu.be/Ae9Lihg6XMA

Maybe we’re missing something here with the Fit Wet? A bike jacuzzi is what this essentially is, and the makers claim that it “combines the effects of biking, water resistance, & jets to improve results 10 times faster than an average bike.” It also costs $18,000, which seems just a little high to use for such exercise equipment. It also essentially means that the water is dumped out after each ride, which seems like a huge waste as well. At least it is made in Florida!

We’ll see if we can get some answers as the company will reportedly be doing demos at the Health + Fitness Business Expo taking place in conjunction with next week’s Interbike trade show. Until then this one seems all wet!

Kinetic(Mis)Shift are products that we think deserve to be called out for missing the mark in health related products.

iPhone Bike Trainer Kicks Into High Gear

Wahoo Fitness has put a new spin on cycle training with its KICKR Bike Trainer, which can be controlled via an iPhone app. This looks a bit like the Lemond Revolution Trainer, which works much like a traditional cycle trainer but instead of spinning on a drum has users ditch the rear wheel completely by offering a cassette and gears. Resistance is controlled via the app, which also lets riders know the speed and watts produced. It reportedly can simulate different conditions such as riding uphill, where more effort is required. Swim Trainer – No Water Needed

Trainers are interesting devices. These simulate an activity, and provide great exercise but without actually doing said activity. In other words a bicycle trainer lets you ride a bike and put in miles while you go nowhere. A cross-country ski machine needs no snow, and rowing machines need no water.

Keeping with the waterless concept the Vasa Trainer Pro is a swim simulator for those who don’t want to get wet – at least until you work up a sweat and then later hit the showers. It uses the same principal of a Nordic Track with pulleys and cables and your own body weight to provide the resistance. Video after the jump

Train With Bluetooth

As summer soon will head to fall it means that riding on the trainer won’t be far behind. There are many cycle computers systems that pair with smartphones for riding on the road but now cycle trainer maker Kinetic (we like the name as much as we like their trainers) is set to roll out the Bluetooth Smart system that can be used with its fluid trainers.

The Kinetic inRide Watt Meter consists of a heart rate monitor, power sensor that connects to the rear of the trainer and an app for the iPhone 4S and new iPad. This system can measure speed and cadence while the user does the spin thing. The accompanying app can track power including current, average and max; heart rate, including current, average and max; speed; cadence, distance; and calories burned.
