It meets the daily recommendations for energy, protein, vitamins and micronutrients, and is also packed with natural phytonutrients, antioxidants and healthy fatty acids.
Its developers are now looking for funding via Indiegogo and recently launched a crowd funding campaign.
Healthier Than a Kit Kat
Who doesn’t love Kit Kat? Well, it may be good tasting but it isn’t exactly good for you. However, Clif Bar & Company has something that might be almost as good: the new Kit’s Organic Fruit + Seed bars, which are made with all organic fruit and seeds. The bars were inspired by Kit Crawford, owner and co-chief visionary officer of the company, motivated by her own experiences on her family farm and in her kitchen. The bars are made with just a handful of ingredients and no added sugar.
The entire line is USDA-certified organic, gluten-free, soy free, dairy free and contains 200 calories or less; and these also contain zero grams trans fat, and do not contain partially-hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors or synthetic preservatives. The Clif Kitchen also sources ingredients that are not genetically engineered. The new line of bars are available in four flavors including Apricot Sesame Seeds, Cherry Pumpkin Seeds, Lemon Vanilla Chia Seeds and Coconut Sesame Seeds.
Break it Down
While you probably wouldn’t reach for a Peanut Butter Cup after a long ride, you could grab Bonk Breaker’s new protein bar – the Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chip flavored bar. This is the latest edition to its protein bar lineup, and is consistent with the company’s philosophy of baking simple, high quality, real food ingredients into great tasting bars.
“We’ve seen huge demand for our protein bar products since introducing the first two flavors, Peanut Butter & Jelly and Almond Cherry Chunk,” said Bonk Breaker co-CEO and founder Jason Winn. “For the third addition to the high protein bar family we went for a classic favorite – Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chip – and spent a year perfecting the flavor profile and ingredients. We were committed to maintaining a clean ingredient list of real food that tastes great, which differentiates the Bonk Breaker Protein line from other protein bars on the market.”
The 62 gram bar has 13 grams of protein from brown rice protein and nuts. The bars offer a 2:1 ratio of carbohydrate to protein, helping to restore depleted carbohydrate glycogen stores after exercise. Like all Bonk Breaker bars, the new flavor is gluten and dairy free.
Bonk Breaker has its followers as it is the official nutrition bar of Ironman, USA Cycling and the USA Cycling Team.
CamelBak Pitches It
CamelBak has entered the filtered-water pitcher market with the CamelBak Relay, which featured a Double Filter Technology system that filters water twice – once as the pitcher is filled and again as water is poured. CamelBak says that this means the pitcher filters water 10 times faster than the leading competitor.
The filter lasts four months with regular usage and removes 97 percent of chlorine, taste and odor. The pitcher holds 10 cups of water and fits in most refrigerator doors, while a pair of side-locking latches keeps the lid in place and ensures spill-proof pouring.
Clif’s New Mojo
This month Clif Bar & Company has some new mojo – a new line of snack bars that include roasted nuts, chunks of organic dark chocolate and fruits including organic wild blueberries. The Clif Mojo Fruit & Nut and Clif Mojo Dark Chocolate bars are made with 70 percent organic ingredients and are gluten-free. More importantly all five flavors of the new bars are 200 calories or less, and offer low glycemic, while being a good source of fiber.
“At Clif Bar & Company, we aim to create quality organic food, that people love to eat, nourishes their active lives and is good for them and the planet,” said Kevin Cleary, chief executive officer of Clif Bar & Company. “Our athletes and foodies joined forces in the Clif Kitchen to build a better snack bar by carefully selecting and combining high-quality ingredients that taste great and are nutritious.”
The five flavors are Cranberry Almond, Wild Blueberry Almond, Coconut Almond Peanut, Dark Chocolate Almond Sea Salt and Dark Chocolate Cherry Almond.

Lean In
Whilst many athletes may enjoy a cold beer at the end of the workout there is the issue of calories. Those watching the waistline after the finish line might consider the Lean Machine, which is now being marketed as a “Fit Beer,” or sport recovery beer. The company touts this brew as being gluten free with just 77 calories. And don’t worry about drinking and riding. It has just 0.5 percent ABV. The company is now looking to generate funding for this line of sports beers through its website.
CamelBak Releases High-Flow Chute
Refillable water bottles have become quite the accessory whether you’re taking one on a workout, a hike or even just a long shopping expedition. CamelBak makes a number of rigid bottles, but one recurring complaint is that to get the water, you have to bite down on a nozzle and then draw the water from a straw. CamelBak has just released Chute, a high-flow bottle that is made with the same durable, rugged body of the existing line, but with a high-flow opening that pours water. Can Your Mobile Phone Really Keep you Healthy?
Modern western societies are swamped with the most advanced communication technology the world has ever seen. They’re also – almost universally – suffering from epidemics of obesity and preventable deaths from related conditions like diabetes. Are the two related? Well possibly. Certainly, we live more sedentary lives than when we were chasing our dinner.
